Church and sexuality?

Here in Ireland the vast majority of us are catholic. 95 percent of all schools here are catholic, we have all made our communion and confirmation and many of us go to mass on a regular basis(loads go on christmas and easter and stuff) We are a very charitable nation and i would consider us on the whole a good christian nation.

While we are all catholics, it is EXTREEMLY rare to find a young person today who discriminates against gay people (or lesbians/bisexuals/transgenders) and nobody thinks it is wrong. We are taught in school (catholic school) at a young age that no one should be descriminated against, and that it is perfectly fine to be gay.

Why is it that when i look at america i often hear about christain/catholic groups saying that it is a sin to be gay/ gay people are going to hell. To me that sounds like a very unchristian thing to be doing?

It really botheres me when people say that you can't be christian/catholic if you are gay or believe that it is ok to be gay. I think those people should get down off their high horses and realise that it will be them who will have to repent their sins of hate.
