As far as when, I do not know. However, I do know that Chrysler is shutting down the entire company for one full month in order not to have so many expenses. It is true that they will shut down for some time, but again, I do not know when they will start.
Don't you know that the bailout was really a pay off? I would not doubt that Chrysler will not restart. As soon as the CEO's skim their monies off the bridge loans, they will vanish and reappear with new start up companies, financed by you and me.
How would this person know? Pure speculation. There IS six months or so of inventory sitting around the country, and the factories should shut down for at least a month, but totally shut down? There's too much at stake.
No way to know for sure. Chrysler is no longer a publicly traded company so there is no need for them to release any information to the public about their plans.
I live in St. Louis where they make Caravans and Ram trucks and the news says there just "idling". And there on the news alot! Chrysler uses car analogies when talking to the press so "idling" means they should re-open.
That's not to say your friends position won't be eliminated. Who know's.
