Chrysler Fiat merger?

So an the worst American car company is forced into a merger with Europe's worst car company Fiat. What is the govt. trying to get out of this? Who will buy their cars? Any one who has ever owned a Fiat knows that they're not worth the gas you put in them.

Is the govt. so desperate to pretend that this is a solution?
 
Maybe it is because Fiat is the only interested party at the table right now. If Chrysler doesn't do something fast, they will close. At least if they merge with another company, the will be around for a little longer.
 
Yes it is a possibility, if you do not like the product, you do not have to buy it. Freedom of choice, it's just like abortion, if you are against the idea, then don't have one. Freedom of choice is a wonderful thing.
