Chrysler does diagnostic.? I have a 2005 Chrysler 300C. The transmission has been clunky and for about 6 months now and recently when pulling away from a stop light, there was a shift issue with the transmission then the malfunction light illuminated and the car continued to drive. More recently, from second to third gear, there was a large clunk when shifting. The engine completely disengaged from the wheels, so the engine was reving but there was no power to the wheels. I pulled off to the side of the road, put the car in park then back into drive and I was able to drive. The light then came on next time the car was started. In both instances, the light went off after about 3 days. At this point the car was brought into Chrysler and they ran a diagnostic after the light went off. The only error they got was a windshield wiper issue from a long time ago. What could possibly be the issue the the car that the on-board diagnostics does not remember the light and problems with the transmission?

that is what is called a hard code, the light stays on even when the problem is not there but after certain amount of trips or ignition turned to on position the computer assumes that the problem is gone and there is no need to keep the MIL(malfunction illumination light) on and turns it off and erases the information stored related to that particular malfunction
What you describe sounds like the speed sensors are acting up, when the light comes back again take it to Autozone, they put the scanner and won't charge you
