Chronicals Of Narnia 2 - Prince Caspian

I went and saw PC yesterday and before I make any comment on it I would like to say I have read the books more times then I care to remember.

My children were brought up with the stories and know them nearly as well as me, my son (who is 19) reaction was C.S.Lewis must be turning in his grave and my daughter (23) it seems really wrong to fancy Caspian he is only supposed to be 12.

I realised when watching the film that the screen writer was changing the story to try and appeal to a larger audience, an older good looking hero (not the golden curly haired boy in the book) a battle in Miraz's castle where Narnian's were left to be slaughtered (never happened in the original story) and the first meeting between Peter, Edmund and Caspian which took place in Aslan's How. They could have also saved money on the wages of the White Witch as she never appeared in the book version of PC.

I might wish that the film of Prince Caspian was truer to the book, maybe if Peter Jackson had been involved it might have been, but I do have to admit that I enjoyed it and would not hesitate to encourage others to see the film.

Skandar Keynes is the only reason to watch Prince Caspian. Forget plastic Barnes with his fake tan, hair and neon teeth. Keynes is much hotter and can act. Something the other 4 in the film cant do - not even Henley who is now just an average child actress.

Speaking of PJ... I saw this last week and was startled by the similarities between PC and some scenes in the 3 LotR films. Namely the rising of the waters and the trees involvement. I haven't read PC for ages but I really don't remember either being in the book. Can anyone clear this up before I accuse the film makers of blatantly ripping off PJ?

The only reason I want to see this film is to lust over Skandar. He looks wonderful now and from the clips I've seen he's the best actor in the series. Knocks spots off Ben Barnes. All the fan reviews I've read go on about how brilliant Skandar is but they are really unhappy he didnt have more screen time. Adamson screwed up there. He gives much less time to Skandar and Georgie while they are what made LWW special.

I think you're getting a bit confused. I was comparing scenes form PC with bits form PJ's LotR films. PJ has nothing and will have nothing to do with the Narnia films. He's very busy with one or two other projects (Lovely Bones, Tintin, The Hobbit).

Have to agree on the best Narnia book. But, i have to say that i'm a bit disappointed with the movie. It's still lacking the thrills and chills i got from the book.

Skandar is only 17 but what the hell he's gorgeous. I think he's an excellent actor. Much much better than the Potter kiRAB or Thomas Sangster/Freddie Highmore and much HOTTER to.

One of my favourite films is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Infact my DVD has worn away with so much use so I was really looking forward to seeing Prince Caspian. I was a bit nervous before hand when I saw they'd picked Ben Barnes for the title role and his overfocus on the film's PR did set off alarm bells for me.

My concerns proved to be valid and the film does not match the first. We get glimpses of one interesting character Edmund (Skandar Keynes) who isnt used anywhere near enough but the others are cardboard characters. I'd agree that Barnes is bland and unmemorable while Moselely, Popplewell and Henley seem to have deteriorated as actors.

The film is too focused on battles and is definately not an intimate character piece. It didnt recapture the warm family dynamic of the first film.

In Dawn Treader they need to focus on a few key characters and flesh them out properly. Rumours are that the draft script of Dawn Treader again falls into the trap of far too many characters with Edmund and Lucy thinly sketched.

I hope Skandar Keynes is more centre stage in the next film as he's very watchable.

Actually, Skandar is only 16 (he will be 17 on 5th September) although that means he is even more impressively hanRABome and hunky :) He has an incredibly deep lovely masculine voice already deeper than William Moseley's, for example :)

*Incidentally, I think Daniel Radcliffe was much better and more impressive as an actor on stage in "Equus" than he was in the Harry Potter films.

Michael Apted (whose last big movie was The World is Not Enough) is directing Dawn Treader.

I'm looking forward to it. I suspect the movie will be truer to the book than Caspian was as a lot of new material needed to be added to the latter to pad it out to two and a half hours. Dawn Treader is a lengthier book even though the story is really a succession of set pieces.

Skandar Keynes fans will probably be disappointed though as the film will most likely centre around Eustace (Lucy and Edmund's spoilt cousin who joins them for the first time) and his journey. I don't think he's been cast yet?
