Chronic wrist pain at least four years?

therapy

I got x-rays and my doctor said there aren't any broken bones. He suggested physical therapy but I can't.
My wrists' tendons hurt on a regular basis (occasionally the bone too?) I've only broken one wrist and that was 6 years ago. When I crack my wrists it does make it feel better but that's only temporary and it doesn't always work. I do play an instrument on a regular basis and use the computer A LOT more than I should. So my wrists hurt when I play and type. They also sometimes start hurting when I'm not doing anything. Also, they hurt when I play volleyball. Just hitting it with the underside of my hand hurts it. I remember one time I played and it hurt more than it ever had before. Then the pain dissipated but later I was pushing down clothes in the hamper and the pain flared back up. (same hand formation and motion when playing volleyball). But I don't play often. Oh, and when I put a wrist band around my wrist it's a temporary relief to the pain.
I don't like or trust my doctor but honestly, I doubt any of the others with the insurance I have will be any better. So of course I turned to the internet. I know it shouldn't be a replacement for a real medical professional's opinion, but it's the best I've got.

Kyoko: It sounds like Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. It's from repetative motion. Alot of people get it that work on computers. It's because your wrist is probably in a flexed position. Get a wrist rest to help take the stress off of the tendons when you're typing. I'm finding that I'm getting some pain more these days from using the mouse I have. When I hold it my wrist is in a twisted position. I also wear a brace on my hand to bed. It helps keep the wrist from flexing. If it doesn't get better you might end up having to have it operated on to release the tension from the tendon.

I broke my wrist years ago. I wore a wrist band for a while. Worse thing I ever did. It made things worse. I also re-injured the wrist over the years

I now need a wrist operation for snac wrist /slac wrist. The scaphoid is damaged/collapsed. It is a non union break. There is more. Every bit of wrist pain may NOT be signs of carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS) CTS is a common 'syndrome'. My thinking/assuming I only had CTS caused me to ignore problems for years. '

If you cannot take much pressure when you do say a 'push up' or if you have trouble with flexing your wrist, or if pushing in on teh sides or underneath the palm (where the wrist feels like it starts), I would suggest getting to a sports medicine/orthopedic surgeon. One who specializes in hand/wrist.

good luck

just an FYI here GL? not EVERY situation should even have PT as an option to try and make certain things better? in many cases it really CAN and has made certain problems ten times worse for people when certain issues are simply behind the problem? just wanted you to know that part. while i AM a very strong believer in using PT for specific things, esp after some of my six surgeries? there just really ARE many other types of situations where it could be the very worst thing possible. anyone who is being sent to any PT just HAS to have a certain level of scans or testing done to truely ID the basic underlying problems first just as a big precaution?

the bigger thing here kyoko is you stated it was more likley actual 'tendons here and NOT actual 'bone" issue so it would be VERY appropriate just considering everything to ask your doc to refer you for the basic MRI being done that WOULD see the tendons and ligaments and that area of the carpal tunnel too? all the x ray can see is ONLY bone and nothing else like the tendons/ligaments and the very critical nerves running thru there at all. all of those could be creating bigger issues for you when or if damaged in some way? while this 'could' be carpal tunnel, it very easily could be other things too? does this pain actually run to ANY real specific fingers? any numbness?

i really would for a start, simply see your primary doc to get that referral to the MRI being done and also get a referral to a good ortho doc or even hand specialist too? they deal with this kind of stuff all the time. once you simply find out exactly what that basic inflammation and problems are from, THAT is when appropriate types of treatment can be started to best suit what YOU actually have wrong in there. good luck with this, FB
