I'm a 16 year old female who has experienced chest past continuously sense February 2009. It's directly on the sternum and occasionally radiates to the back of my shoulders and spine from about midway down up to my neck. It's always there but I have "episodes" that are a lot more painful and last from about an hour to 16 hours. The pain feels like a sharp pain along with a dull pressure ache. I've also had "attacks" that come up suddenly and completely knocks the breath out of me because the pain is so extreme (same pain just to a whole other level). The "episodes" happen about once a day, and the "attacks" happen about once a month. I'm a very active person and play many sports. I've been generally healthy before this, but I have had 5 broken bones. I've seen about six different doctors and have had, what seams like, every test and prescription under the moon. Out of all these tests the only thing they've found is MVP but they didn't seam signifficant to the doctors. I don't have any relevant family medical histories except my older sister had gallstones at age 6. Please help me!!

Look, anyone that says they don't have pain with MVP is lying. You do have pain! Some have it worse than others. Have you tried any pain meRAB or over-the-counter pain relief? Tell me more and perhaps I can tell you more. Sincerely, searchin

Before all this I took ibuprofen for a broken coller bone which led to some blood clotting issues so I stopped with that. And about a month after the chest pain started I broke my leg, and even the morphine pump they had me on did not touch the chest pain.

I am wondering if this is musculoskeletal pain. Do you have any arthritis in your spine? You know if you panic with the chest pain it will make it worse. I have fibromayagia and it is causing me some intense chest pain! I try not to worry but sometimes it gets the best of me. Anyway, my husband has MVP and he has what he calls small heart attacks. Usually after working at an increased and very physical pace for awhile. His job is very physical. It even causes him to have anxiety. Did they do an echo or any testing lately? My sister-in-law had to have hers repaired surgically. I think it would be good if you told a cardiac specialist your symptoms. He may have more insight and better knowledge of what neeRAB to be done about this. sincerely, searchin

I've been to a chiropractor before and all he said was that I was off in a few places and my neck was too straight. I've also been to a pediactric cardiologist, he ran an echo, egd, and I wore a halter monitor and all that came back normal. I do have fairly high anxiety if that is relevant.

P.S. Thank you for the help!

I think the anxiety is very relevant as high anxiety can make you feel like you are having a heart attack sometimes! Don't the sports help? I would think the sports if they don't trigger an attack would help you relieve stress. You might try some relaxation techniques at home or some weight-lifting at home. Something that you would not feel pressure from anyone else. That would give you a better handle on your emotions for when you engage in school sports. Do you understand? sincerely, searchin

The episodes and attacks come at random times. They wake me up when I'm sleeping or during the day at school. I haven't found anything that helps but I do try to find a lot of alone relaxation time. At one point doctors even gave me zanex in case they were panic attacks, but that didn't help either. It's very hard for me to relax, even when I'm by myself doing nothing.
