I would appreciate any advice because I am at a loose end with the pain my boyfriend's experiencing. He has had lower back pain ... that moves upwarRAB after a days work (he is an electrician) for nearly a year now. He has seen upteen physio's and nothing seems to have helped. He has just had a Thorasic and Lurabar scan and it hasn't shown up any abnormalities! We really do not know the next step to take now and i wondered if anyone on here had any advice. I feel like we have tried everything but nothing seems to work and he is getting very depressed. he has had to quit his job due to the intense pain. The pain is easier when he is lying down, but sitting on the couch or driving is painful.:(

Hello Scooby!

I'm not 100% sure what advice to give, as I don't know where his pain is originating from (low back, middle back, etc), or what type of pain it is (burning, sharp, aching, stabbing etc). But I would say the next step would be finding a good doctor who is willing to listen and help him find the cause - a healthy person shouldn't be in pain like that for no reason.

Has he had an MRI? Sometimes those can show things that other scans miss. Physio doesn't work for everyone, and in some people it can even make things worse if the doctors aren't 100% sure what's causing the pain to begin with - have you thought about other types of pain management? Usually people start with the least invasive treatment and work their way through until they find something that works. Change in diet and exercise is usually suggested, then physio, medications - and if none of that works you can consider nerve injections, which work miracles for some people. Mind you, all of this is being suggested assuming that you'll find a doctor who can figure out what's going on.

If all else fails, maybe you should consider that the back isn't what's causing the pain, it's just where the pain is being expressed. Perhaps there's something deeper going on that doesn't have to do with just the back - have you looked into Fibromyalgia?

Hope you can figure out what's going on, and that your boyfriend finRAB some relief from the pain soon,

Take care!

XOXO!
