I love the season but it's been bad for my LPR. Between bending and lifting Christmas decorations out side and inside, keeping my head down while wrapping pkgs, and eating all those chocolate marshmellow santas....I have had sinus congestion bad. Have had a hard freeze so ruling out allergies. So much mucus I feel it shooting up, always on right side, to my throat and sinus. Hoping I won't get really sick this Christmas and will have a voice.

Can any of you tell the Christmas Holiday season is making you worse by nuraber uno, stress. But other things such as diet (all the cookies and candy), not getting enough rest, not drinking enough water, schedules thrown to the max. This happens to me every year.

Hope Everyone Has a Wonderful Holiday Season and hoping for a cure for this crap in the coming year:angel:

Don't ever mind butting in because I think the only way we are going to ever figure this out is with all of us contibuting to the post. It always help to find out your not alone with an odd symptom. I've heard different things about having gall bladder removed but never that it caused LPR. But, since we don't know what really causes it....who knows. My husband asked me tonight to stop doing so many saline rinses in my nose but I can't stand this PND, which will not go away. I do cough up matter while doing the rinses and feel they actually come from my throat, not my nose. It's below freezing here so there shouldn't be anything to be alergic to at this time of the year. I know all the sniffling drives him crazy but he has no idea what it does to me and I just can't stop it. Nothing comes from my nose when I blow but it feels stuffy (always on right side) all the time! It does get worse after I eat or drink anything but while I'm eating, I'm ok now. So strange.

Hi Char and ladies! I can relate to all of you here too! Boy can I! I thought I had things under control but I guess not. Ya never know when it can flare up. Holiday time is bad for me too. This time last year I was in the ER for a panic attack. Ugh! It's been more than once for me with those.

I too have done better since the good frost and now snow and ice have come to Iowa. Thank God for that! But then here comes the gunk,,,,the mucus in my throat. The feeling like there is a lump, and that I can't get a full breath in. I can't tell if it is my allergies giving me a drip or the reflux coming up and causing the thick mucus. SO I don't know wether to take Prilosec, xyzal, Benadryl, do my sinus rinses.... or all of it. ugh!

I have been into the holiday goodies....peanut butter balls, sugar cookies, fudge..you name it! And I had been doing good prior to this. Even lost 7 pounRAB. I had wine last night....and spicy hot wings tonight. Even though I took food enzymes before those which always help. It's just not good. Oh and did I mention I gave a lady a massage at her house today and she has 2 cats and I am ALLERGIC to CATS!! I hadn't had any meRAB before entering her house. I left with my throat itching and more goop running. I had to peel my clothes off at home and throw them into the washer. Sometimes life stinks with this reflux and allergy ailment. :(

All this to say....is that I have been taking Oil of Oregano to de yeast my body. They say it helps get rid up yeast and fungus out of the body which I know I have a problem with because of my sinus's. Perhaps this would help the acid reflux. Maybe by getting the body back to functioning in a healthy state those things could be controlled. Any thoughts? I know before my sweets this past weekend. I did the Oil of Oregano for a week and didn't eat much sugar or starches and was starting to feel great. Then I blew it! Coffee drinks, wine and goodies, I have been up in the night with my tums too. Thats when I know I have it bad. When I awaken in the night and need tums! Ugh!! Help ladies....I don't want to live like this.

Maybe alot of this is the after 40 thing. Our stomach's don't produce enough enzymes and we need to supplement with those so we don't have the reflux. I will try and try until I find my answer. I hope you are all hanging in there. Always here to talk! :)

I think you hit the nail on the head by several things written in your post. I've read a lot about yeast and what it can cause and I also eat a lot of sugar. I've found that at this time and age in my life, I'm getting more and more health problems. I've been reading this book called "Feelings Buried Alive" about how our feelings can cause certain illness. For stomach we all know the stress and gut thing go hand in hand but I don't go for this one. On allergies and sinus one reason caused is "weeping on the inside." Not letting go of negative feelings about something. If there's any anger, negative feelings in me it's about this curse that has taken over my body!

Its sooo depressing isnt it. I always get bad attacks at christmas, Ive spent the whole week waking up in the middle of the night with heartburn and chest pain, and panic attacks:(:(

Its really getting me down:(:(

Nessie,

I'm having horrible sinus issues with still lots of mucus. Thankfully, haven't had the tongue burning thing lately or loss of voice. But, this feeling of choking and mucus being hung is bad enough along with constant sniffle. I'm really going to check in on LPR being a disability because it dang sure is! So sorry to hear about your husband. Mine had to have a chemical peel last week for skin cancer. Sure that doesn't help our problems with the stress of worrying about them along with the stress of Christmas and everything else. No rest will do you in too. Hope you both get better soon. I hate to be negative but I honestly don't think any OTC product helps LPR that well. Not to say I don't try everyone of them too! I've lost faith in PPI's as I can't see any real difference in my symptoms taking them or not. I've had a lot of ENT spec tell me to use a liquid anticid for LPR since pills can't coat your throat but they even come back up on me. It's very frustrating to get this way and mine is bad today. That stuck in the throat thing that won't move is back along with stuck in the sinus thing!

May be why I've been so bad this week. Went to cocktail party for work in Houston office and threw caution to the wind. Lobster melted in butter, lobster bisque, wine & cheese, bunch of raw fish that I don't have a clue, wine and more wine topped off with cheesecake and a chocolate fountain!

I tried to eat a haraburger tonight and it got stuck.

Are you doing any better? I've had the feeling of drowning or choking a lot?

Char

I'm not sure about the after 40 thing. Maybe.... I started with the reflux coughing at 34. Allergies and chronic sinus problems kicked in at 23 and asthma at 32. I do think the allergies/sinus and asthma problems threw my body out of whack and led to the reflux flaring up. All the years of coughing and had to have affected my stomach. You can't cough a lot without contracting your core muscles all the time.

I'm allergic to cats too. I hate not having pets. I get to a point where I think maybe I should just give in and get one and live with the consequences. Then, I visit someone with cats for a few days and totally remind myself why I don't have them anymore.

I can relate with the nasal symptoms though. I've been chronically stuffy and congested for about 15 years. I was feeling pretty good today and totally missed about 300 sugar cookies being baked right next to my office. Who misses a wonderful smell like that? Had to go off all decongestants about 4 years ago because of BP issues.

Have you tried the saline sprays with Xylitol? There is a good one on the market. It is all natural and in addition to cleansing, as saline sprays do, the xylitol has antimicrobial properties and is supposed to help keep the bacteria in the nasal passages from settling in. I use it after the rinses.

Even though I live in an area with many ski areas, I am in the middle of the desert. The air is really dry here year round so the saline sprays are a must. Even with that, I'm already getting the winter nasal problems. I had to pull the humidifier out. I hate having to do that though because of the mold allergies and the pain of keeping it clean with really hard water.

I haven't given in to the food temptations yet, but I plan to in the next week or so. After three months of food restrictions after my reflux surgery (and because of the IBS I developed on the PPI's), I'm going a bit stir crazy for some favorite fooRAB though. I have some awesome recipes for this time of year. Pre surgery, I would be good for long perioRAB of time and I would give in to try things I shouldn't when I was feeling better. I know at times it caused things to be worse, but we do have to live a bit. Haven't had wine for about 3 years though. Last glass I drank gave me a 3 day major flare up.

Hang in there.

the stuck in throat thing i have to at the moment, but i can live with that, some symtpoms i can live with others i cant like the buring tounge etc.......there has to be something that helps.........the thing is if its muscular like i reckon mine is ie stomach muscles forcing normal amounts of relfux up high and powerful then things prob wont work that much cause antiaciRAB etc dont stop muscles!!!! however i am going to try zantac after xmas whn i have 6 weeks of for school summer holidays. im going to have a play around with meRAB. maybe try double dosing the PPI in the morning like some people say works and then take zantac at night.........i will see im not into drugs so this having to take them sux!! ness

oh also sorry about your hubby to, that does sound stressful, if you are like me you are a type A personility where stress is a huge factor in my life and i cant control it!!!!

hi everyone
hope you don't mind me barging in. i am amazed at how my symptoms are exactly like all of yours. i am miserable right now and every time i get the lump in throat i panic cuz i think it's my wind pipe and won't be able to breathe. the symptoms scare me very much and i get panic attacks from them. this flare up is the worst i've ever had. i never had lpr that i know of until i had my gall bladder removed. i wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Yes, yes, yes. The panic attacks are coming much more often! Forgot about that one and don't know how because I hate that feeling. Try deep breathing but can't because I don't feel like I can get a deep breath. Even had heartburn some and sour stomach, which that had been better before.

I can get really down and depressed if I think about what all has happened to my body the last few years. LOL. This LPR stuff has got to be the worse thing though. Especially since it effects my sinus so. I haven't been able to smell in years so you would think I wouldn't get hungry. But I keep packing on the lbs now when at one time, I couldn't stop losing. There's always this nagging thought that there's something else totally wrong other than GERD/LPR but I'm treating all symptoms. I've been using Astelin and it's not doing a thing. My husband said he thought I was doing too many salt water up the nose things but if I cough and cough and feel like something is hung, it usually is! I worry about having to wear pain patches on my neck and shoulders all the time too but ache so bad and this was before I fell off the house. That certainly didn't help and now I can't walk very far from either not being able to breath or my legs hurting. I'm only 56 so shouldn't be this bad already! Hard to feel good or have energy when you're worn out from sniffling and coughing. It's so strange how it can come on out of nowhere. I can be sitting here just fine and all of a sudden get this stuffed up feeling (always on right side) and makes me sooo uncomfortable. Really gets bad if I'm doing things like lifting or bending.

There's my rant for the day!

Char

hi gypsy

sorry that you are having LPR its not the nicest thing to get........as you have had your gallbladder out you are prob refluxing bile as this is more common with gallbladder removal.....it may settle down as it can take up to a year for your body to get used to not having a galbladder........ask your doctor for stuff that will bind bile like carafate(something like that spel?) and a PPI twice a day..........when did you get your gallbladder out........also glavison might help to, but def try PPI and something for bile...

my tounge is alto bettet today thank goodness hope it continues to improve!! still sore but not feeling as much as a cat tounge now and not so much white coating yah!! still have the lump in the throat thing thou bummer

Char,
Everyone neeRAB the chance to rant. I've had years of being worn out because I was coughing and couldn't get a good breath. It really wears on you physically, mentally and emotionally.

For me, the Astelin only supplemented my Flonase, Singulair, Allegra and immunotherapy. It helps some, but I'm not sure how it would do on its own. Using the Xlear brand saline rinse helps too.

Do you ever get massages or chiropractic adjustments. They seem to give me some temporary relief at times. Both people provide me sinus treatments.

I've read that acupuncture helps some too. I haven't tried that route yet though.

I can't remeraber from past posts. Have you ever been diagnosed with asthma as well. You know that I had acid aggrevating my lungs as well as my cough.

I have shoulder problems too. Right one was operated on this year. Worked well until about 3 weeks ago. Now it hurts again, although not as bad yet. Nothing I can do for it though. My problem can't be fixed. The surgery was just to try to help some.

By the way, I fight the weight battle as well. The medications and not feeling well seem to put the weight on faster than I can try to get it off. I know the weight has an influence on my health as well.
