Christians why is the serpent often depicted upon the cross?

You can find this in numerous esoteric systems, on churches, alchemy, etc. If the Serpent is the same thing as Jesus then what is that God you're worshipping?

No idea. I have not seen this symbol in Christianity. The Serpent is not the same thing as Jesus.
