the known world, at what point in their education is it vital that they are made aware of the virgin birth or the great flood? Would the suppression of these stories impede their understanding of science or would it improve it?morgaine - how does basing your faith on such a tenuous event give it relevance?delivered - i appreciate your honesty, and if everyone took that stance we would probably see the same results repeat endlessly.interior - do you also explain that there are children being trained to one day eliminate your children from the planet because they possess a stronger belief in an equally absurd story?

We don't worry about that kind of things to teach a child.Teaching them to live in the real world is enough of a challenge.

It has nothing to do with understanding science. Even I know virgin births do not happen naturally - that's the whole point - it was a miracle :)

If a person understands science, one can appreciate how God may have used natural laws to perform such miracles.

I dont remember NOT telling them bible stories early on....I do the same with my daughter...but, there comes a point when we as parents are responsible for not raising ignorant haters. I felt it my duty to teach my kids about other beliefs and lack of beliefs without demeaning the people who held them. I felt the need to teach them that it is not our duty to FORCE our beliefs on anyone else. And most importantly, I felt it my duty to teach them that I could only tell them about God....it was their own journey to find Him. My sons are both agnostic at this time.and I have a 2 yr old daughter.

Science has already thoroughly debunked the flood, so not only does a Christian need to explain the miracle, but he needs to also suggest that God disguised the evidence for whatever reason.I suppose a Christian could claim the virgin birth was just miraculous and has no natural explanation while ignoring there is no evidence to support any of those people even lived.

First, I tell my kids ; Truth is One. The same God who made the universe is the One who revealed Himself. None of this Two Truth stuff that you espouse. It's dangerous. Creates manic Spritualists. The Great Flood is naturally introduced by all the ancient accounts of it. Kids love ancient history. They love it.The Virgin Birth. That I introduce when talking of Classical Culture, the Pax Romana , and the WORLD-WIDE expectation expressed so beautifully in Virgil's 4th Eclogue. -- and, yes, you guessed it, Virgil introduces how the monks saved European Culture, how Dante loved Virgil, and how V. obtained the nickname 'soul of the natural Christian'.Since my background is so heavily science and esp math, I try to be balanced.

We instruct them that we don't know how these things happened but we believe they did. We will all get answers when and if we get to heaven? are choice where we go! We take an approach with science this is a model for the world so that we can communicate with each other about difficult processes that we cannot fully understand those are theories, there are facts of science kids but many times they change as we learn and things are given us. Science is a gift of God,Medicine a gift of God, Use it understand it think for yourselves!
