Here's the thing... Analogies are GREAT when talking to children, or people who may not otherwise understand the subject material.
However, in some situations -especially ones that require specific evidence or factual information- analogies are insufficient and they do not provide any strong supporting evidence for your argument.
Sometimes I feel like christians try to manipulate the situation by not presenting the facts, and appealing to emotion rather than logic. It's nice to be poetic, but sometimes it's not appropriate. So why is it that so many of you insist on using analogies to prove your point? Every pastor I've ever had has done this, and many christians I know today- in real life and on Y!A do this very thing. Why? Don't you know it makes you (as a person) look incompetent?
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT generalizing. These are my observations and I make them on an individual basis. I realize that this may not pertain to all christians, and I am not posing this question as an attack on christianity.
