Christians, the first time you heard the gospel, did it seem like good news?

Probably both. If you're young when you first hear it, you're not likely to comprehend all of it in one shot.

Well I've been hearing the gospel my whole life but I do remeber that when I was little, I liked the gospel because it sounded like a story. So the first time it didn't seem like good news, it sounded like a story.

It depends. I heard that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. So that clued me in to that God is not willing that anyone should perish.
I think one time I was in Church and they preached the gospel, and they talked about how we need to stop sinning.
It's really important that we preach the power of the Gospel to salvation, because if we say "you need to repent" and they are in bondage to sin and know it, it's of no use to them, unless they understand that the Gospel can change lives!
In that case many that are in the grip of sin gladly accept Christ as their savior, and are very happy to share the good news with others!
I see two kinds of broken gospels.
One is all you need to do is believe, which denies the power of the Gospel, and the other broken gospel is you need to stop sinning before you accept Christ, which also denies the power of the Gospel.
So preach the Gospel with power, pray for people to be saved by the power.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
(Romans 1:16-17)
When we have faith in God, we become like God, partaking in the divine nature (Peter wrote).
We add these virtues to our Faith. We have Faith first, then virtue is added to that. Not virtue before faith.

Believe in Jesus alone for salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what! Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
