Christians: I broke a statue of the christ on the cross, it was made of marble...

...sculptured to almost perfection? .. (perfection in the sense that the image was almost like human). But yet, its all there is.. just a marble.

Since most of our family members kneel in front of it during their prayers, I feel ashamed that I seem to disrespect their faith on a marble image.

Did I commit a sin for breaking the image of god?
 
You should try to replace it thereby taking away the shame and feelings that you have sinned
 
No sin.. it was just a "thing"... We are not to worship or put anything above God. So no sin,, but then God knows your heart not me.
 
We are not to kneel before images or idols. Besides, Christ is no longer on the cross.

maybe you did them a favor.
 
I believe the Bible speaks aganist idols and images and the hosts of Heaven and worshipping them too. Have you read the book of Leviticus and Exodus, Bible. If you pray to Jesus pray to Him not a picture or statue of Jesus.

Well no... actually you were committing sin for having an image of God, and committing sin for kneeling before an image of god......

You will be better off without the statue.

I see it as you doing them a service. Stopping them for worshiping a false idol. You should be proud not ashamed. :)
