Not all Christians are fundamental Young Earth Creationists. I have met quite a few who view the Bible far more metaphorically and are perfectly content in various scientific fields (including Chemistry, Biology, Nuclear Engineering, Geology, etc). A religion is simply a group of people who share a common belief. Any group of people will have those that are kind, selfish, wise, intolerant, hateful, generous, loving, empathetic, courageous, vicious, honorable and the whole rest of the gamut of human characteristics.

Now stop making me defend people. Grrrrr.

The findings of mundane science have no real bearing on spiritual axioms. If I want to read about science, I will reach for the science book. If I want to read about the Judeo-Christian tradition from a source book, I will reach for the Bible.
