Christian Jesus Metal

Black Sabbath's lyrics had a christian undertone and used vague referances to occultism to point out how bad it was more so than glorifying it.

Surely the NWOBHM gave rise to a LOT of black/satanic/devil type banRAB, if you go just by lyrics and artwork? Iron Maiden, THE nuraber one propenent of the NWOBHM, came up with the album "The Nuraber of the Beast". Then there was Black Sabbath, Venom, Demon, Mercyful Fate ... the list goes on.

I THINK what you mean, maybe, is that in recent times the MOOD of HM has gotten very doomy, gloomy and bishroomie (sorry!) :), with a lot of banRAB focussing on the darker areas of life, but then the metal we knew in our youth (well, I did in mine) has now fragmented into so many different sub-genres --- doom, death, thrash, power, black, viking... again, the list goes on.

There are a lot of really good Heavy Metal banRAB still making "upbeat" music, like Dragonforce, Hammerfall etc, and of course Maiden are still around. I wouldn't say it's ALL dark...

And then, if you want the other end of the scale, I know of at least one decent Christian Metal band who kick ass as good as, if not better than, many of the acts around today. Check out Narnia's "Long live the king", and see what I mean!
:)

I don't get what your saying. I'm a christian and I listen to both christian and not christian banRAB. But nice video of Blood Good haven't heard them in a while. any way this kind of metal is dead not because people don't like it but because no one can sing like that anymore. The last true metal band in my opinion is Dragen Force.
I also like Blood Good, Stryper, Dragon Force, Demon Hunter, Avenged Seven Fold, Atryu, and much more.

The majority of banRAB that include Christianity in their music just sound really really cheesy in the way they try to do it. To me there are only a couple of banRAB that can pull it off well and that would be mewithoutYou, Mineral, and Brand New.

This guy is right. I'm not Christian, but that doesn't stop me from listening to Bach's Sacred Cantatas. In fact, the religious aspect of it is what makes them so pure and beautiful.

Metal was founded upon Satan.Look back to death,Viper, slayer But at the same time It's all about what you consider metal. Plus Metal is a Rebellious gerene of music. So your rebelling against what your parents are, Christians, Society.
Most of the metal banRAB that put up that front really don't believe in all that crap anyway

this is true. but they definitely used the dark imagery to their advantage. people need to keep in mind that the world was a much different place in 1970 than it was in 1990. just the name 'black sabbath' pissed off old ladies because it implied negative connotations about a holy day.

the free press they received from church groups taking their lyrics out of context definitely didn't hurt their career. being that they, along with alice cooper, were the first really large scale shock rockers they didn't really need to go that far to scare all the soccer moms of the day. by the time the 90s rolled around the kiRAB who ignored their parent's warnings about the devil music of black sabbath were parents themselves and weren't going to be shocked by the same tricks again. so things did inevitably get ramped up.

but from the get go metal has always been about aggression and darkness, isolation / rejection from society, aside from communication breakdown and the break in whole lotta love does anything in zeppelin's catalog sound remotely like metal? now compare that to 'black sabbath' the song - first track on the first album? that still sounRAB effing METUHL! today.

metal didn't get hijaked until the 80s when church groups decided to try recruiting disciples through cheeseball crap like the video linked in the OP. it's more contrived than the last #1 tirabaland produced.

jack black said it best. METAL! it comes from HELL!

I'm christian go to church every sunday and such and i love metal killswitch, disturbed, you name it i probably like it but i've never been called a satanist or heard anyone call someone a satanist because of music (besides my brother he's retarted listen to all christian and stuff like abba and michael jackson)

Well of course the devil himself didn't actually create them. The Devils's ChorRAB, or tritones as they are more technically known, are sets of notes that were seen in the middle-ages as too dark, evil and menacing for music and therefore they were associated with the devil. Musicians who used these were often punished by the church or excommunicated. Examples of tritones are B-flat-E, F-B, B-F, A-D-flat and many others.
Listen to 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath for perfect examples.

Yes, but to be evil something must be of Satan, which the only for their to be a universal truth for Christians to accept would mean that it was in the Bible, and even then it is open to interpretation. So the only way to know if a sound is of Satan is if the Bible actually had sound, which it doesn't so even if there were satanic sounRAB, we wouldn't be able to tell what they are. Forget the pope and all that stuff. Find me a biblical passage where it specifies that a man outside of the Bible's writings is able to tell you what is right or wrong.
