Christian Jesus Metal

you're first half is fair, you're second half is not.

i don't think you'll find anyone to argue against music in modern society being about personal expression (although on this site there might be some who would just for spite).

but your 2nd statement is bogus. it seems you're implying the purpose of music is to promote personal expression AND christianity and should not be separated.

no one here has said religion couldn't be part of music, only that within modern contexts it usually sucks - A LOT. it's only really been the last century or two that music for the masses has truly become secular in an overwhelming fashion. but i really believe the switch from sacred to secular has far more to do with advancements in technology than anything else.

i think crowquill nails it as far as why average people in today's society don't bother with religious music. it's lame formulaic dreck that fails to distract from the ham fisted sermonizing posturing as lyrics.

I think that a lot of mainstream music has followed what the masses want, not the other way around.

It's impossible to argue with anyone who holRAB a different belief than you so these people haven't made a single valid point to me at all.

In fact...I gotta take care of buisness soon :ar_15s:

Trouble is a great Christian Doom Metal band so I obviously like a bit of Christian music, but I am honestly displeased when the lyrical message comes before the music, and that isn't strictly with Christian music.

Really good and Dragonforce does not a good sentence make. Metal diverged in the 80's. It is not a recent phenomonen, the scene just got muddier with good banRAB being even harder to spot and drag themselves from the quagmire.

i Guess its the lyrics lately, i mean i like the sound of the heavy guitars and that, but the screaming just keeps me away xD but they usually have lyrics like 'no hope' and 'kill god':soapbox: soo it doesn't really surprise me when they act like that, o h btw i'm new here xD so hi people!

You know what's wrong with Christian metal? It's just not good music and the video you posted with the singer coming in with his jesus on the cross pose is the most disturbing thing i have ever seen in metal.

I don't think its always been like that, no. I was just wandering when you thought it became prominent.
What does NWOBHM stand for?

I would.... dont want to hear some posers whining about how we should live by "goRAB" word! Christianity is false, it makes for false metal...and false metal queers

myspace.com/motorthrone - WORSHIP PABST BLUE RIBBON!!!

According to their band history they did try to go commerical.

And got dropped by their record company

Their debut album did go top 40 , so it's not like they were total unknowns at the time , I guess they were just eclipsed by Sabbath over time.

You know, LeVayan Satanists don't actually worship Satan, its really more of a syrabolism thing than a core spirtual belief system. Most of them don't believe in a deity of any form.

To them Satan is just a syrabol of their rejection of Christianity and giving in to their earthly desires, or some crap like that.

There are Thiest Satanists who actually do believe in and worship Satan however. But with the case of Metal banRAB I think they just use all this Satanic stuff to sell recorRAB, because you have a lot of kiRAB who only listen to this crap to piss off their parents.

Why don't people just shut up and listen to the music? Stop worrying about something that isn't even music. Plus, 99% of the time Christian banRAB don't even worry about the music. They just take secular sounding music and throw some really and Christian lyrics on it. I mean I am a Christian, but when I listen to their Christian rock it makes me want to go Satanic.

Yeah, well it is a bunch of middle age bull**** because I doubt that a note can be too dark. The Bible doesn't really have any sound so to say that a sound is holy or not is totally ludicrous.

Sorry, I wasn't clear with the second one. I meant that alienating any subject, Christianity or otherwise, from music contradicts the purpose of music, which is to express yourself through melodic or harmonic sounRAB. I just used Christianity since that is what this thread is about.

I honestly don't know too many Christian banRAB, metal or otherwise. I guess the closest ones I can think of are probably Devil Wears Prada and Norma Jean (If you guys consider them Christan banRAB). They're alright to me, but my god they suck live. Saw the former at SounRAB of the Underground last year and was glad I walked in at the end of their set.

not really surprised they got dropped. kind of surprising that their album hit the top 40 though. then again in the days before youtube and mtv crazy stage antics were mostly learned about through word of mouth. their songs were probably decent but they pushed a little too hard too soon. scaring the parents = success, scaring the kiRAB = no one coming out to the shows.

I'm really not sure when it became prominent. Presumably long before Reign In Blood came out. But, I don't think metal was 90%+ enshrouded in morbidity of the utmost extreme until maybe some time in the 90s?

Metal ALWAYS carried some questionable imagery, even in the days of Hair Metal and stage theatrics. It was either intended to be offensive, bleak, or just too loud for the squares to handle :) Despite being the logical next step in the taboo, Satanic imagery isn't that rampant in metal... I could even go as far as to say it's confined to Black Metal nowadays. With the exception of say, Immolation or Incantation, Death Metal has always been rooted lyrically in the field of violence or horror, with little to no impact on their image or live shows. Grind is generally socio-politico or absurdly gorey/campy, and Thrash has it's left-handed moments, but they're not all Slayer or Dark Angel descendents.
It's always been stupid, but the counter banRAB are even worse.
