Christian Bale is nuts, check this picture!

I remember reading a story about Bale when he was filming American Psycho and how every time they filmed a certain scene he would break out into a sweat at exactly the same moment. He was completely unaware that he was doing it.

I can't make my mind up about method acting, having studied it & Stanislavski for A Level. Whilst I think most of it is straightforward common sense, a lot of it is self-indulgent twaddle and the Dustin Hoffman/Laurence Olivier moment sums that up.
On the other hand, method acting can produce the most stunningly intense performances ever seen.

What I don't get is, Christian Bale is a very average actor who I would go as far as to say has had some truely pathetic performances that are nothing short of a disgrace to acting.

I can think of numerous films where the acting by CB is so bad it's ruined the film, Harsh Times has one of the worst potrayals I have ever seen, it's truely third rate acting. CB can't do accents, in fact the only thing he can do is play his Amerian Pycho character so he's really a one dimesional actor who can only play complete and utter tossers, which may suggest he plays himself in films

The thing that annoys me most though is other acotrs have given truely outstanding performances and it's been known that they managed to do so, by method acting

CB has just skipped the performances and gotten attention by making it known he is trying to 'method act' not make good films and act well and people then discover he was doing this 'method acting' thingamajiggy

Basically he's living on others work and the way they have raised the profile of Method Acting

Bale tries too hard, and as a result comes across as a very stiff and boring actor.

If he'd just RELAX and stop with this method acting nonsense he'd be good, possibly even very good.

Possibly, just possibly Nolan directed him to perform like that?

The mark of a good director is to direct actors, the mark of a good actor is to take direction.

If Nolan thought his male lead was acting in a wooden, boring fashion, you can bet your life he would bloody tell him.

Bale is a clever guy, he chooses the right movies.

I have liked just about every movie he's done in recent years except for that shite Reign of Fire.

The Machinist, Harsh Times, Rescue Dawn and American Psycho had their critics but I liked them all.

The Machinist was amazing, and anyone who suffers from insomnia will know too well what its like to live a lethargic demoralising existance bordering on going nuts!!!
