Hey all, I was furabling through the internet and was hoping I could get some advice.

I'll give a bit of background.

About 5 years ago I had blown out my knee. I have a lot of scar tissue in there, even after having reconstruction done. (I can get bend my knee from about 8 to 90 degrees, nothing more) so when I walk I know I am throwing my hips and back out.

I was find until about 8 months ago when I had a terrible pain in my back and hips, every step I took was like someone was shooting me in the back and leg.

I went to my doctor who directed me to a chiropractor. I've been going twice a week since and still, to this day, I am not 100%.

I've also had a few massage therapy appointments, which also didn't seem to help me.

I am terrified of surgery (if my knee is any indication, I don't know if surgery is the answer for me).

I live in Winnipeg rab Canada and was hoping I could get some advice on a good Chiro, is Chiro the best option or is there something better that I don't know about?

Pls Help!

while chiros do have their place with certain types of spinal issues, what you really need first is to truely find out what the real underlying extent of the back problems are. have you ever actually had an MRI done on that lower back/hip area just to fully see down to the actual cord level/nerve roots too? you could very easily have some other real issue there as well that just became exacerbated when the knee thing occured too, ya know what i mean? if you have never had more than a basic x ray taken of that lower back, i would seriously delve in a bit deeper to just see what could also be there that would NOT show up at all on a mere x ray first.

believe me, i do know that when my R knee went crazy(and also developed RSD), i did start walking differently too and it did appear to really hit my L hip more than anything. the opposite knee too took awhile to calm down as well(this was all mostly from my change in gait). i still cannot bend my R knee either more than the 90 degree. there just can be alot of other reasons besides 'only' the change in your overall gait that could be going on in the lurabar or hip areas that can create alot of what you have described here. no one truely ever knows just exactly what is going on within their own bodies til you at least get some deeper "look' into it with at least an MRI, preferably with a contrasting agent. you just really need to know what it is you are truely dealing with here first. Thank you for the advice. I had an X-ray done, but that was the full extent of it and was told what I'd need to do (Chiro). but 8 months down the road with no real significant improvement is telling me a different story.

I'll talk to my doctor about having an MRI done.

From my own experience, I've had mixed results w/ chiros. I had a herniated L5-S1 disc that was giving me troubles every few months over the last couple of years. The chiro care didn't seem to hurt it but I'm not convinced it helped it either. On the other hand I wrenched my neck sleeping one night and ended up w/ shooting pains down my arm into my hand. Two trips to the chiro took care of that. I think it really depenRAB on the underlying condition.

I saw your post about Chiropracters. I have had back issues for 20 years and numerous surgeries for the same.

This is just my opinion but when people asked me if I ever considered a chiro an option for treatment my reply was NO!!! I would not any circumstances go to a chiropracter. I personally do not believe in them. I would try physical therapy instead at a rebab/physical therapy first to see if that helps. Then if not then decide if surgery is an option that is right for you or not. Hope all works out for you. Keep us posted.

I just had nurabness no pain when I went to get cracked to see if it would help. I had used the guy for years. I walked out of his office in pain and stayed that way for over year till I had an L4/5 fusion. Make sure you have no bulging discs or other issues. I'd never go to one again. Good luck!

John
