Chinese martial arts, Please Help!?

I've been lingering with this aspiration for 2 1/2 years in assuming myself into CMAs, and have followed with mounds of research upon everything and anything CMA, and never paying heed to the "information" on wikipedia, but elsewhere It is of not being financially fit to continue in a class, months on end and of the fact that there is much skepticism in many out there, following for a quick buck leaving the naive-minded with false hope and watered-down techniques. Many out there who follow in the practice of TCM, most likely follow in the arts. If it is for me to truly learn, then i have to go where ads and billboards don't apply to the person in "wanting" students. I dont want naivety to get the best of me, for I have vied in following through in maybe asking in all politeness and kindness, but fear that they'll simply look at me for a fool or that im downright far-fetched. Id like to approach many of the TCM doctors within chinatown, in the appropriate way that shows my sincerity, but fear that I'll be met with ridicule on their words, or i might cause a misunderstanding and put myself in a scuffle.

Im hoping this isnt too long but i feel as to show the importance and determination i feel in this aspiration.

In anyway possible, how might i approach them without them thinking that Im implying to them that im a silly westerner who is being obnoxiously prejudicial?

Any and all information is accepted. Even if not pertaining to a person(s) within chinatown, i might be givenbe of someone within the downtown los angeles area, who may be able to help.
And Please, no bs. Thank you
Sorry for the long-questioned inconvenience, if it is
@ David N.: Ive have deeply considered for taiji, but here, everybody doesnt have the mindset in learning its full benefits, and see it as much of a high commodity next to a pilates class, and only enter in it for its presupposed, "healthful" benefits, the problem today is that many rely on a quick fix and want to see fast results, while slandering CMA for the fact that its "much too slow' for any real benefit. Im sorry, but Yang taiji, has caught on the to the western masses, and it now doesn't entail with the martial aspects anymore. Thank you, though
