Chiller Channel Beginning Anime Block

Well, as a Dish Network subscriber, I now have a third anime option. First there was Adult Swim, and then Ani-Monday, IFC has dropped their block, but Chiller Channel (Dish Network 199) is starting a monday night anime block.

While I can't vouch for the quality (don't know much about these shows), at least some more networks are picking up anime.

Here's the line-up for the next few weeks:

July 13 - Strait Jacket
July 20 - Tokko Episodes 1 & 2 and Sword for Truth
July 27 - Tokko Episodes 3 & 4 and Descendants of Darkness Episodes 1 & 2

Also called Ani-Monday, it airs at 9 PM Eastern.

What do you all think of this?

Weird and a little bit surprising. Never expected Ani-Monday to expand so I may check it out (and also add Chiller to my favorites list on DirecTV) probably on the 20th since I didn't follow Tokko that much when it first aired and I work on the 13th.

Also, for those who don't know, Chiller is owned by NBC Universal - owners of SyFy.

I get this channel (I have cable), and I always wondered why we needed a horror channel. But if it's going to play anime I won't complain.

Ninja Scroll, huh? Is there going to be any movie left after the censoring?

Edit: Wait a minute. Is Ani-Monday still on syfy? You'd have to pick one or the other then...

Actually this is expected since Chiller is basiclly "The left over Sci-fi channel" it's anime block is a left over rerun version of Sci Fi's block.

Though I have to say the much earlier time makes it more tempting. I never got to see those shows when they aired on sci fi due to the time it airs. Now i get to so I'm happy with it.

Too bad only one TV in the summer home has chiller and it's down stairs. so I can't wach it right now.

Hillarious you watch TV-14 to TV-MA content on Chiller then tune in to Ani-Monday to watch TV-14 and freak'n Y7 (apparently listed as PG) Rave Master. You'd think they'd maybe put that AFTER instead of before but eh... different channels have different regulations on what can be shown when.

I addition to running two hours earlier, Chiller reruns the block from 4- 6 AM ET.

Other shows already aired include:
Blood: The Last Vampire
Vampire Wars

^Well, Syfy renewed Ani-Monday for another year so maybe NBC Universal is pleased with the results they've been getting, hence the (relatively minor) expansion. Chiller is a channel virtually no one gets, though, so this doesn't really effect most of us.

I didn't even get Syfy until I switched to satellite a year ago, for example. If large markets like Chicago don't even get Syfy on basic cable, why would anyone have access to Chiller?

I was wondering when this would get a mention. I saw Ani-Monday on Chiller advertised during Ani-Monday on Siffy last night. At least they're on slightly different time slots.

It is a bit odd that they'd keep the same name for the block, but they're both NBC-Universal cable networks so I guess that's fine. Maybe they'll eventually expand the Ani-Monday brand even further, perhaps with Lupin III style action comedy on USA or some soft-core yaoi on Bravo!

The fact that it's reruns + horror titles and on such a niche channel renders this not terribly consequential, though nice for the very few that have both interest and access.

The main Ani-Monday block is where it's at, and with any luck it'll eventually expand just a bit.

A remeinder: while all the blood is left in, "harsher" swear worRAB and nudity are censored.

Odd censorship, huh? I would expect a channel like Chiller to air fully uncensored stuff.

I have had Syfy on my cable for several years so I feel lucky for that, but until this horror anime block was added I never even knew Chiller existed! Glad it's just reruns and anime I've already seen so far, because my cable company couldn't/wouldn't add it if i begged them(and I won't).
