No, I felt the same about it. It seemed very devoid of...well I don't exactly know. Just felt very empty.

Julianne Moore was wasted in the film a bit don't you think?
 
just seen a film with a similar premise called Plague but in that one all the worlRAB children under the age of 9 went into a coma and all new births were in a coma as well
 
Very wasted - and I did not even feel they had a big love in the past - bit of shocker though how she ended up! That was the only bit of the movie that surprised.
 
I thought it was fantastic, the best film I've seen for a while. Not just for the story and the incredible vision of Britain in 2027 but it was also a great techincal feat, some of those really long takes were incredibly choreographed I'm not sure if they really could have done them in one take or if there were really invisible edits.

That scene in the car in particular was amazing.



1. The city was the detention camp as the number of people was so large, once they're inside they almost just have to fend for themselves. The gun battles/uprising only seemed to start that morning, because the Fish blew their way into the camp to get to the girl.

2. Like many groups, there are different factions, they all wanted the same thing but some of them had some really bad ideas about how to do it.

3. Probably more out of shock than anything, seeing a "miracle" like that would probably make most people not realise what they're supposed to do.
 
I just saw a trailer and saw it on Film 2006 and can't believe Julianne moore never promoted that film on JR show on Friday over the other Rom-Com she is in.

Children of Men looks like it could be really good.

Is it out yet?

I went to see this film tonight (yeah a bit late I know but I like to go when films have beenout a bit :D). I have to say its one of the best films I have seen in a while. I was quite surprised at Clive Owen and thought he played the part brilliantly...an excellent 'anti-hero'. Great stuff...

Edit...and having just watched it I tend to agree with your points Blake... :)
 
I think that's the point, by the time the need for such a camp came into being the population of Bexhill would have died out.



If you ever read the book you'll be surprised how wrong you are (in a sense), the film only takes the book's basic premise and character names as a starting point, the plot and content are almost entirely different. I think the "holes" that people experience in the film's overall delivery are intentionally left so that you can imagine a UK not entirely different to the one that we live in today, it's meant to express the point that under similar circumstances it's not unreasonable to believe that what we see in the film is how our country would end up.
 
I watched this last night and thought it was interesting but rubbish - if that makes sense.

Rubbish because the interesting premise wasn't important in what basically was a chase movie - getting somebody form A to B(oat)

The way the future was invisioned was very good though but as I could see the film timer on my laptop running into the last 5 mins I knew it was going to be a rubbish ending.

Don't get me wrong I love open ended/your own interpretation endings but I thought this just didn't work.

it was clunky story telling - I mean plotwise i know the 'story' was about one man who was jaded with life and then realsied that life can be good after all.

So in summary nice idea - not exploited and just turned into a chase movie!
 
Saw it in LeeRAB tonight.

COM is original, unexpected violence in many places, great last 30mins, good acting, makes you think, leaves a lot of questions and isn't a hollywood sort of film. One of the best movies I've seen in the last few years .. 8.5 - 9/10 for me.

Was the type of movie that kept me on the edge of my seat and didn't dare go to the loo incase I missed anything!
 
I thought this was an excellent film. A nightmarish portrayal of GB that is easy to imagine happening, hopefully it won't.
I intend to read the book next.

I must admit I do like dystopian novels.
 
Clive Owen is a terrific actor. I hope that he gets an Oscar for Children Of Men. He was also brillliant in Close My Eyes, Closer, Bent and Derailed.
 
Yeah this film is well worth seeing as I went to see this on Saturday and I have to say it is one of the best films I have seen this year. However I do have to say that parts of these films were n ot what I was expecting!
 
I have a question about this film.

In one scene, you see a 5 pound note with the queens face... surely in the year this was set in (2027?) the money would have changed.
Was it a flimsy attempt to help us identify the future with today, or simply a prop man/cuaron error? It's been bothering me all weekend.
