...their former public school.? I have two elementary age children who are enrolled through an online public school called Connections Academy, which is an accredited school. They started this year and have been doing amazingly well. My daughter is in their gifted classes, and my son who had previously been struggling at his last school is now learning just as fast as my daughter had at his age.
My husband had spoken with my children's former school principal about our decision. She didn't outwardly seem to have any issues with it when asked her opinion about this school. In fact, she seemed like it would be a good idea as long as we made sure that our children had plenty of social opportunities.
However, a week ago she called us to inform us that Connections Academy had not yet called them to ask for my children's tax/school ID number. She seemed a little concerned. We then spoke to Connections Academy - who then stated that it's their policy to wait until a child has been enrolled for a couple weeks before requesting this information. They also said that it's not uncommon for a former school to try to bully us about our decision. (I really don't feel that the former principal is trying to be a bully. She's a nice person.)
Anyhow, today I received a letter in the mail from the county stating that our children are now considered truant, which was reported by their former principal. I'm surprised because the children are officially enrolled with their new school. I had also thought that the former principal was well aware of everything, as she had even spoken with the principal of Connections Academy. I hadn't been contacted by the school district prior to receiving the letter. I would talk with both schools and the county, but being that it's the weekend, I cannot until Monday. Is this a common occurrence? I know I won't face legal trouble since I am complying with the law - but how much of a hassle is this going to be?
