My daughter suffers from night terrors. (Note these are not the same as nightmares) She has had them since she was about 8 months old and she just turned 2. We just did another sleep clinic and I was wondering if anyone knows of any online support groups for parents of children with sleep disorders. I looked but cant seem to find any...
A nightmare is something you can wake up from and even remeber it happens with active immages in REM sleep. When a someone has a night terror they can not be woken up or comforted, they scream and kick and sleep walk, it can go on from a few minutes to a few hours. The person will then stop, be in a deep sleep and then will wake up and have no idea it even happened. If anyone knows how to go about starting a group that might help me out too!

Would this be considered night terror or nightmares? When I was a child, I had "nightmares" almost every single night in my sleep. I'd kick & scream in my sleep. My parents often had to come in and wake me and/or hold me down. I had childhood asthma, and sometimes, my dreams would be so scary I'd have an asthma attack-- pretty scary to an 8 year old. And it happened several times a week from the time I was about 2-9.

I always kept the closet open so I knew there was no one or nothing bad in there & I kept my door cracked a few inches for light. They didn't take me to support groups. I just kind of grew out of it. I think the thing that helped me the most is that my dad started praying with me before I went to bed & tucked me in every night. He'd pray something like, "Dear Lord, please help Jenny have sweet dreams tonight and keep her from being scared. Amen." I don't know if it was really God helping me or if it was a mind-over-matter thing, but it helped!
