chiclid fish sick need help?

i have 2 oscars and 4 convicts and the convicts have lost color since there new tank which i have posted before and still have not gotten it back and now one of my oscars is going down to the bottom and scrapping his whole side of his body on the rocks then charges off with a burst of speed then repeats it any idea what it could be. thanks derek.
no i did not let it cycle when i should of that would not kill my fish would it i do 50 percent water change a week i use stress coat for water conditioner im starting to think maybe its the tap water here i just moved in here how would i check that.
how do you know when a tank is cycled

Flashing off the rocks is a tell tale sign of bad water parameters or a external Parasite like Ick. Being that you have just set up this new tank Its most likely a problem with the PH.Temp. Ammonia,Nitrite or Nitrate levels.

You need to do ALLOT of research on these fish and how to properly cycle new tanks. Now that you have set this up with these fish aside from the fact the tank is way too small, the water is gonna go bad quickly. Go buy a test kit and test the water every two days for Ammonia,Nitrite and Nitrate. Do at least 50 % water changes when levels go off the charts which they will. Also only feed every 2 days until the tank has cycled. Good Luck\

You check the water by buying a test kit. The kit tests for Ammonia,Nitrite,Nitrate and PH. And not letting your tank cycle along with daily feeding will kill your fish buddy. I'm telling you with more than 10 years of fish keeping that you have to do 50 % water changes every two days as long as the levels are high otherwise you will get fish lose.
 
have you tested the waterfor nitrited and nitates ??? you said its a new tank right did you let it cycle ???
 
test your water if you haven't, did you let the tank run before you put the fish in? How long have you had the fish for? I had a tank full of chiclids for about two years, they always used to do crazy stuff like charging around etc. Sometimes their colour fades when they have been stressed ie. Changing tanks or water levels not good. If you think their is something seriously wrong go speak to someone at a fish shop, i used to get this guy to come out and check my tank every now and again, get professional advice soon as if one of the fish is sick it will spread quickly - i once had a whole tank wiped out in less than 24 hours.
