chickens in my tomatoe garden..... :(?

I have free range chickens and they are eating my tomatoes in my garden. Has any one tried tying plastic bags on the bottoms of the cages to scare the chickens off? Just an idea I'm tring, wondered if anyone else has tried.
oh did I say I have over 70 plants
