Chevy Trailblazer or Ford Explorer?

in the past i have had multiple ford and recently a chevy BLAZER i know that this is not the trailblazer however i have had numerous malfunctions with the chevy blazer. the tail lights have routinely gone out, the check engine light is always on, the the ride of Chevy's are loud and noisy......so all in all, i would go ford explorer

Having driven both, and even sold Explorers for a while. The Trailblazer has a better base engine, but the Explorer handles better, and has a better interior. However the base 4.0L SOHC V6 in the Explorer is pretty underpowered when compared to the 4.2L I6 in the Trailblazer. Both SUVs have optional V8s that are comparable in performance. Neither one is particularly good off-road.

I would also consider the Nissan Pathfinder, it's built on the same Alpha platform as the Nissan Titan and Armada, and has arguably has a better powertrain than either the Explorer or Trailblazer. It also does a bit better off road that the Ford and Chevy due to it's more sophisticated 4WD system that only requires one wheel to have grip to keep forward progress going. It's interior is on par with the Chevy's. It's a also more reliable than the Ford or the Chevy.

If it came down to the Explorer and Trailblazer. I would go with the Explorer, but If the price was right I wouldn't rule out the Trailblazer either.

If we are talking about the new models, I vote the trailBlazer. I've driven both of them (rentals for my company) for an extended period of time, and all of my co-workers preferred the Blazer as well.

These were '08 models, 4wd. The Explorer was the V6, the Blazer was the I6.

The Blazer had more headroom, had a more comfortable interior, had a smoother suspension, and was a more capable vehicle offroad. The Explorer was faster off the line, had a more firm suspension (sporty) so it handled better (plus the independent rear suspension), but was harsh when offroad at all.

Fuel mileage was comparable between the 2; unfortunately I cannot remember exactly what we got. Even then it wouldn't be comparable to real world numbers because of the amount of slow speed, offroad, and extended idle times that they were exposed to.

I do remember thinking that the Blazer's rear suspension was too soft. The interior of the Explorer got dirty quicker from dust, as if the doors or HVAC system was sealing or filtering properly.
