Chevy Flex-Fuel details needed...?

I mixed regular gas and E85 in my Intrepid and it didnt do any harm at all, no difference in mileage either

But it's not for sale around me so I only added it the one time
 
I saw a HHR today with a flex-fuel sticker on it and wondered the following: Can these cars fill up with gas and ethanol? Is it something that you can just switch back and forth or do they have 2 separate tanks?

I am wondering if you fill up on gas, run a half tank, and then fill the other half with the e-85 ethanol mix, would it still work...
