I just bought a Chevy Corsica with 140,000 miles. It looked in good condition, ran fine but rough at idle. The guy said it just had one cylinder head that was off, but it wouldn't die on me.

Well, on the way home I was stopped at a stop light and it idled really, really rough and died. It started back up fine but then shook itself and died again. The only way I could drive it was to put it in 1st or 2nd (it's an automatic) and then it runs rough but runs. Any ideas???

Idles hard?
Check your throttle body? or if it's a carburettor... check that.
Rough idling that dies can be caused by an extremely filthy throtte body/carburettor.

Also check yer spark plugs and it's wirings and assemblies.
All the best.

P.S. : Nice car, buddy

It could have something to do with a coil pack. You may not be running on all cylinders. You're gonna need to take it to a shop. It might also be your catalytic converter. Sometimes they get clogged & do the same thing. When you drive the car for a while, park it, get out & look underneath. If the pipe that's in the middle of car is glowing red, good chance its one of the two things that I suggested.
Good Luck
