The Cobalt is only okay, according to consumer reports and other automotive testing sources. The Malibu, although it has a better "feel" to it than previous GM offerings, still lacks a bit in updated tech-nology compared to offerings from Europe and Asia. Neither car is time tested for longevity or predicted repair ratings. With GM in as much trouble as they are in, you would have better luck dreaming about a VW, Audi, or even a small Ford. Before you buy anything, search for crash test reports (NHTSA) and J.D. Powers. As far as safety goes, you would probably also be better off dreaming about a nice used Lexus mini or even a used Taurus. When you are 16, it is much more important for you to find a reasonably priced, safe, fuel efficient car, that will be cheaper to insure, and that you won't feel too badly about if you smash it up a little. Believe me, when you are learning to drive, you WILL make little "mistakes", even when parking. A nice used Honda or Toyota, with good crash test reports, that was well cared for is the better bet. It is easier on your pocket for repairs, generally, too!
