chevy caprice classic 1988 gas guage?

drop the tank and change filter and pump which has float attached usually 2 straps if not electric pump you have a float to change either way drop tank
 
depending on the motor you have in your car you will most likely get around 16miles per gal assuming that you have a 13 gal tank you can drive about 250 miles safely keep track of it by the odometer about every 200 fill up if you choose to get it fixed they will most likely have to drop your gas tank and in all probability replace the fuel pump which generally has the gauge built into it
