3 days ago as I was turning on to the Freeway my steering wheel made a popping noise on me. When I straightened the wheel it felt like my power steering went out. When I got to work I did a few tight turns and there was a loud pop in my steering wheel. Then the steering was fine. That afternoon my Airbag light went on. I had it towed to the shop as the steering column had to be replaced after and accident 2 years ago. They called this morning and told me it had nothing to do with what they replaced, but rather the "Noise" was coming from the fact that my Steering Shaft Bearings were bad. The problem I have with this explanation is that 1) There was NO noise after the pop and the steering was fine and 2) Why is the airbag light on if the bearings are out? and 3) Why wouldn't you replace the Bearings when pulling the steering column and replacing it... does this sound fishy to anyone?
