Chest and back pain

I'm have severe pain in my upper back and chest. It hurts severly when I swallow anything including drinks, have a light burp, and it hurts a bit as I breath. It worries me because I've never gone through this type of pain before. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I keep telling my mom but she says I have a doctors appointment soon. But I'm kind of worried so if anyone can settle my fear or give me a clue to what's going on with me I'd really appreciate it.

Dear aug294 - My first thought was acid reflux, but where you're having back pain, I don't know... I DO know this, Chest pain at ANY age should not be ignored. If you are in severe pain, your body is sending you a message. "Soon" doesn't sound good enough to me...

I used to be one of those "it won't happen to me" people. So was my friend. I'll never see him again. I don't know your age, but if your old enough to post this, your old enough to make a phone call to a friend or family member that may help. The Emergency Room may need to call your mom , but its very unlikely they would turn you away. But try calmly reasoning wi. Mom, and try to make it a little "sooner". Best Wishes.... Sherbear38

I agree. Chest pain is too spooky to mess with, at any age.

Talk to mom again, or call your doctors office yourself and explain to the nurse what your symptoms are and let them take it from there.

I don't know if this is the same as yours but I did have real bad throat pains once after I ate too fast and swallowed too hard - sorta like pulling a muscle - it felt like the inside of my throat was bruised. It took awhile (several hours) for it to go away. I could still feel it whenever I swallowed for 2 or 3 days.

I was also wanting to ask if you perhaps pulled something. Did you work out hard or lift weights? I am having chest and back pain but I started working out real hard and pulled somethings. I would get checked out by your doctor right away first. But honestly sometimes you can pull muscles in both locations, even sneezing! Or perhaps acid reflux also. But your doctor will help you get it figured out. Good luck! Keep up posted!

The pain in your back can be muscle related. As in it hurts to even take a breath in. I suffer from numerous back ailments and have had 2 major back surgeries so live with back pain. The back pain can be annoying. Have you tried taking an anacid to see if that will help with the discomfort that you've had?

When did you Mom say your appt is?
