Calculate the mass percent, % (m/m), for the solute in each of the following solutions

A) 75g of NaOH in 325 g of NaOH solution
B) 2.0g of KOH in 20.0g of H2O

% by mass = mass solute x 100 / mass solution

A) mass solution = 75 + 325=400 g
% = 75 x 100/400=18.8

B) mass solution = 2.0 + 20.0 = 22.0 g
% = 2.0 x 100/ 22.0=9.1

Formula: (Mass of solute/mass of solvent) x 100

A) (75/325) x 100 = 23% (with sig-figs)

B) (2.0/20.0) x 100 = 10.% (with sig-figs)
