Ok so we did this experiment in class but i was at my music lesson when the teacher was explaining the science behind it. Now i have to write up what happened for my homework and i don't understand!

The experiment we did was to see how the quantity of sodium thiosulphate solution effects its reaction rate with hydrochloric acid. We did the experiment 5 times, each time with a different concentration of sodium thiosulphate. The more dilute with water the solution became the slower the reaction time was with the acid. Why? could someone please explain this in a simple way, talking about the particles..??

this is because there are less sodium thiosulphate particles to collide with the acid particles. the acid particles will also collide with the water particles resulting in unsuccesful collisions. the more unsuccessful collisions there are then there are then the rate of reaction will be slower because the acid colides with less sodium thio particles and more water particles than if the soln was more concentrated.
