Cheerleading as a sport?

Why do people say cheerleading isn't a sport? I am the captain of my cheerleading squad. Anyone want to differ?
Cheerleading is not just a dance routine because honestly have you even seen cheerleading? even if you have seen it and you still disagree you would know that we don't just dance.
B-Dubz----- you just said that if its competitive its a sport.... excuse me for having to tell you this but IT IS COMPETITIVE!!!!!! do you know anything about cheerleading? and lilly is the only one who knows what cheerleading is actually about it is the worlds HARDEST, MOST DANGEROUS SPORT in the WORLD

what_ever -----> honestly? go **** yourself because sweetie i would LOVE to see you do a full layout into a stunt where you do a basket toss. maybe we can make arrangements b****?

Hell Yeah its a sport!!! My friend broke her arm trying to complete a tuck! Thats just one of the easier tumbling you can do. Think about what a full twisting layout could do to you. Stunts are hella hard. You literally have to be a rubberhand , be extra strong, pull through pain and still put on a smile.Memorizing it all....speechless. Omg i know what you mean i cheer and i hear alot of people say its not a sport and im like well lets see you put someone in the air i mean we work out more then some sports at my school. but i can see where they come from cause cheerleading used to not do alot but now its hard core ive gotten more hurt practicing stunts then anyother sport i do. so its a sport keep cheering girl :) and if anyone says that my coach always says well there welcome to come to a practice and see for themselves lol
 
i only consider it a sport if it is competitive. I dont care if ur on the side doing a flip every once in an hour but it isnt a sport
 
i know i am the caption 2 and i think it a real heard sport i don't see why people don't think it is but it is the most dangerous sport that is what i think
 
I agree with you. Cheer leading should be considered a sport. Its competitive, threes competitions, trophies, and it takes a lot of work. I think its a sport, no doubt about it.
 
i agree it is a sport i wasn't the captain but i was a strong follower i sucked at it though i could barely do a round off
 
i think it is a sport,
in the dictionary a "sport" reads:
an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.
and i think competitive cheerleading fits that description.
