Check your phone's warranty before leaving the store!

I'm kinda riding along with a friend who bought Cricket for her daughter. The plan and phone were purchased right here "...in middle America.." After the (Motorola) phone developed the chronic charger port issues, she found that her one year mfg warranty was only valid in France! Check your phone's ESN to make sure you have a good warranty before leaving the store... Folks at the store stated that moto was "lying" and that it wouldn't have covered that problem anyway (bull), that her only option was to file an insurance claim, pay the deductible and to pay for the phone's contents to be transferred to the replacement. I wonder if the insurance provider knows how providers of their covered devices are wasting money like this. Anyway, venting for Kim, will update with any resolution (and welcome any suggestions for her).

Well, yes way. I called Moto with the esn, just to make sure there was not an error previously. I was told the same thing, that to be honored the phone would need to be shipped to MotoFrance for repairs. The guy basically laid it back on Cricket, saying they're the ones that purchased the phones to begin with. Contacts are in the works with Cricket Corporate (with copies to local consumer ripoff dept at a tv station), but now I'm thinking that Assurion(sp) might be interested to know that they are possibly being hit with fraudulent claims from Cricket.

cricket handles warranty issues at their own corporate stores, you are not required to contact motorola at all. cricket will deal with motorola...
cricket doesn't buy any phones from the manufacturer themself, they have an agreement with the manufacturer to sell phones to brightpoint, brightpoint in turn sells them to cricket dealers and to cricket as well....
I'm pretty sure no cdma phones are sold by MotoFrance...
a broken charger port is not covered by the warranty as the warranty only covers problems that the phone ships with and the charger broke from use, not because it was defective, so any replacement would have to be through assurian's phone replacement plan.
