That code indicates a torque converter issue. It's a much cheaper part than replacing the whole transmission though. The torque converter is what replaces the clutch that a manual transmission has.

Follow his advice though and get it checked out anyway, there could be a hidden problem waiting to slap you in the mouth with a $3,000 repair bill.

My check engine light was one a few days ago. I went to autozone. I exactly dont remember, but most probably the code was P1744 and the guy said it has something to do with transmission. He suggested me to go to a tranny shop. But the light went off automatically after two days. What could be the reason for that code?
how much would it cost me to fix it?
I have an automatic transmission.
