"Check Air Suspension" on 2003 Lincoln Navigator?

My mother's 2003 Lincoln Navigator was operating perfectly fine the other day when a light came on the dashboard that read, "Check Air Suspension". Right when the light came on she said the ride felt like she was riding a horse, bouncing up and down. After checking the car's manual she figured out how to turn the air suspension off but the ride was extremely bumpy (and obviously not good for the car's frame).

Anyway, I Googled this problem and it seems that a LOT of Ford / Lincoln cars have the very same issue.. and I'm talking probably 8 out of every 10 search results was linked to Ford or Lincoln air suspension failures.

My uncle had the same issue on a Ford Expedition a few years ago and it cost him "a few thousand dollars", according to him, to get it fixed.

Does this sound in the ballpark for fixing the air suspension on a similar car to an '03 Navigator? What options do we have? My mother and I aren't too car savvy and my father, who is, has been in the hospital so we cannot ask him.

Thanks.
