Cheapest carrier plan for an android device (USA)

Hi!

Heres the deal, Im trying to find the cheapest possible monthly cost for an android device.

Preferably, Im just looking for a cell phone plan that is data only, since I really dont need talk nor sms...

Can i buy, say, an unlocked htc evo and then only buy a 3g plan from sprint?

I read some where that the dell streak is 3g only, no voice and no sms. Is that true? Does it actually use the 3g connection to place a call?

Right now the cheapest i can find is with sprint at 60 dollars a month.
Any suggestions? I am happy to buy unlocked if that helps.

Thanks!

I came in to say tmobiles even more plus plan thats $60 a month. I too have wondered if one could pay for only the data plan, that'd be like $30, perfect.
I dont think they'd let you do that, but you should call all the carriers and ask them.

Would be sweet.

Are you not planing to call at all? Or just use skype or something.

thats my plan! my bill ends up being $68 something. last month i used 16gb data, lots and lots of text/mms messages, and like 300 minutes voice. lol, i dont talk very much. but, itys a great plan without a contract on top

couldn't you use google voice to make calls? i don't have a data plan, so i've never really looked at google voice, but i know it's like calls/texts via internet connection. if so, that'd be an awesome deal. $30 unlimited minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data.

Hi

Ya 60 dollars is ok but tmobile service is horrible in my area and sprint is same price, if not cheaper.

So I wonder, if i buy an unlocked nexus one could I go to at&t and say I want a data only plan. Do you think thats possible?

I wish i could use straighttalk with an android phone...

I looked into Sprint and its the same or a little more money than tmobile. I'm in north NJ, go to nyc, and surrounding areas and my servise is fine, as long im in the busy areas. Some outside areas my service is really flaky, but i'm OK with that. Plus i know they're upgrading their range power very soon, so i'm waiting on that. I think a similar plan from Sprint is $69.99, or at least where I am.

Buy a 'feature' phone as they often have half price data plans, then buy an unlocked android and swap the sim card. You didn't get that from me.

honestly sprint has the best deal. unlimited every thing for 70. and i'm pretty sure you can get just data without voice. also, you cannot use google voice to make calls since it has to "piggy back" onto your voice plan. but these guys are paying 68 a month which sounds amazing to me. but tmobile isn't the greatest in california.
