Cheapest 3G?

I'm looking for the cheapest 3G phone that will work in North America and in Japan. 2 megapixel camera and external memory would be nice, but all I really need is 3G and GSM. I do have a preference for Japanese phones, but again, really just want something cheap and basic.

Do a search (left side of the screen almost at the bottom of the menu) for UMTS. 3G isn't cheap (yet) and it looks like $230 is the basement for unlocked 3G, which in this case is a Ericsson V600i.
