I've been researching used cars for weeks, focusing on small SUVs. Didn't have much luck with that, so I broadened my interest and came across an '01 Toyota Echo w/ 96K miles for $5K. Like new in and out. Plus amazing mpg. But I've heard that since it's made to be cheap, it kind of is (for a Toyota anyway). Especially since I'll be taking 4 hour (200 mile) each way car rides every month or so. Plus it's a car, not a little SUV like I reeeally want.
The Sportage, on the other hand, is an '02, 140K miles, good condition, $3200. Miles are really high which worries me, but I hear Kias are pretty cheap to fix up. I also know I'd be getting literally half as good mpg as the Echo.
The 3rd option is the '01 Honda Passport, at 90K miles for $4900. Only thing with this is everything I've read says it is more of an Isuzu than a Honda, and for the money I'd want a real Honda quality vehicle. (As a broke college student, $5K is really my limit)
Anyway, anyone have experience with these? Which do you think would be the most bang for my buck? Thanks guys!
