Charlie and the chocolate factory!

The use of the Machete - bungling swinging through the jungle a la Captain Jack.... both myself and my gf looked at eachother at that point and just said "Pirates!", spoke to a couple of frienRAB after who saw it, they agree too...

then again, these things are open to interpretation :D

Because the "original" is not a true translation of the book, it deviated too far, softened and sweetened the dark and sinister overtones of the book, and Roald Dahl pretty much disowned the Gene Wilder version

This version has been endorsed and welcomed by the Dahl family as the interpretation Roald Dahl wanted put to screen

Too true - but this has always been the case with Tim Burton movies - even his Batman still splits the fanboy community, especially after the release of Batman Begins this Summer

Anyway, Mr Burton now seems set to keep our Comic actors in wages for years to come, with this and now the Corpse Bride coming in September (the main cast, aside from Mr Depp, are all UK Actors)... give him a couple of years, they will naturalise him and call him the saviour of the British Film Industry :D

ah yes I remember now!
Cant say I saw that immediately, but I get what you mean.
Captain Jack is my favourite character of all time *swoon* :D

The film was dreadful. The whole storyline was racing and it seemed that there was a race on to finish making the film.

I found the whole storyline unbeliveable unlike the origional which felt like a family film.

I am still unsure about the part with the squirells attacking. I thought this may be too much for younger children.

The umpa lumpas also ruined the film unlike the origional. Having the same guy duplicated seemed like a farce. And the songs are not ones kiRAB will remember. For instance how many of you can rember the origional songs/tune, and how many of you can remember the new ones?

All this said, Johnny depp was excelllent in the film. And he was the only reason that I didnt get up and walk out.

People who totally love the original will not neccessarily love this movie - they went in different directions. But Roald Dahl hated the original movie, and, apart from a few chapters dropped and the addition of a back story, this is the story as Dahl wrote it, and, as Tessa Dahl has stated publically, this is the film her father would have wanted on screen.

I might be completley wrong... But didnt Roald Dahl write the Screenplay for the first film???

Rocket.

Sorry but in this case then how did Roald Dahl hate the first film if he co-wrote the screenplay or am i missing a behind the scenes punch up???

As most of Dahls booksare very dark i thought Wilder played the character as i read the book(obviosly before seeing the film!) However Depp just doesnt have that edge. I know its 30 odd years apart but in 30 years time, i personally think Wilder will remain Mr Wonka and not Mr Depp.

Rocket.

Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay but David Seltzer was then brought in to re-write it. If somebody else was to take my work and change it, making it into a different concept, I'd probably hate it too.

i saw this film last night and i quite enjoyed it. i quite liked the song as they go in! better than the 1971 film but that film was still quite good.

I thought it was so terrible this film, it doesn't compare to the original and what happened to the children????? especially Veruca Salt, she is nothing like the original one. Well whoever wants see.............DONT!!!!

P.S Wonker seemed it bit horrible to the kiRAB lol

I just dont know!!! The original film i actually thought was better than the actual book, it just had more depth to it, e.g slugworth trying to get the secret fomula to the ever lasting gob-stopping, tricking the kiRAB to test their loyalty to willy wonka, rather than just 5 kiRAB going into a chocolate factory being dispatched 1 by 1. The newer film follows the book til the end. So like the book it had no depth, except at the end which for me dragged on. It also goes into willy wonka's past, kind of stealing the mystery fact of Mr wonka himself. The oopma loompa's who just ugly clones who made you scream for terror as they sang their unmemorable "techno" chants. and the kiRAB weren't as nasty as they were in the original, this is because the orginal focuses on the kiRAB, the newer one mainly focuses on willy wonka himself and his past. Though in general the newer film was good, the original was better as in doesn't need SFX's to save the day nor jonny depth!!
