Charging a T5 in China?

Hello,

This is my first post after finding this forum. Seems to be a pretty good resource so far!

I recently bought a used T5 off of craigslist for my girlfriend, who is in studying in China for a year. It was fully charged when I picked it up, and the charger seemed to work fine before I sent it out to her. Now, she's saying that the battery won't charge past 2/3 full. I've looked into the electricity system in China, and it seems like they're on a 220 volt system. Is this something that an international converter/transformer will solve?

Also, can the T5 be charged by USB? I couldn't find any information about that anywhere, but it seems like this doesn't work. Palm's knowledge library site doesn't have anything for the T5. When you select the T5 from the drop-down list, it goes to the Life Drive knowledge library.

In China, they use the same system as the UK. There are USB sync-charge cables that will allow handhelds to be charged via USB. This could be done anywhere around the world.

The electrical plugs in China are 'T' shaped and have 220V. Hope this helps.
 
You might try an in-cradle soft reset. This simply means doing a soft reset with the charger plugged into the T5.

I am not familiar with the T5 but this can solve a problem on the TX when it displays an erroneous charge amount.
 
Thanks for the reply, I'll check those things out. Do you know if the USB Sync/charger cables for Treos are compatible with the Tungsten series PDAs? Some cables I'm seeing list both Treos and Tungstens as compatible, while others don't.

I'll tell her to give that a try, too. Thanks for the tip!
 
Some of the first Tungsten devices released have a different cradle connector design than the latest devices. That is why there is a difference in cables that will work. The T5 uses the same connector as the latest Treos.

What part of China is your girlfriend at? If she can make it to Hong Kong, there are a lot of small shops selling accessories for PDAs.
 
Get the travel kit, I carry my T5 all the time and have no problems charging it in other countries...just got back from a week in the Alps (southern Germany and Austria) and kept it fully charged without a hitch!

She's in Hangzhou, which isn't very close to Hong Kong. I'm sure she'd love to visit Hong Kong, but she probably won't be able to do that for a while. Thanks for the input, though! I'll look for an appropriate cable and/or travel kit.
