Characters voiced by Cartoonists

Every now and then in the animation biz, a character is voiced by a certain voice actor. But whenever there is a certain snag, like if the team cant find a perfect voice for the character they often get a cartoonist to voice the character. Depending on what the character is{Usually background} a character in the animated film or show is voiced by a cartoonist or someone who happens to work in the animation crew.

So do u happen to know any cartoonist that voiced an animated character? I know a few.

John K provides the voice of Ren. Danny Antonucci voiced the sun in an episode of Ed edd n eddy. Ralph Bakshi has provided a few voices for background characters in his works. And Joe Ranft voiced Wheezy from toy story 2, he also voiced that caterpillar from a bugs life.

Craig Bartlett, the creator of Hey, Arnold! provided the voice of one of the shows' minor supporting players, Brainy. Usually, he would just breathe heavily and would only say a couple of words at a time.

Joe Murray (creator of Rocko's Modern Life) provided the voice of Ralph Bighead in "I Have No Son!" and "Wacky Delly". Joe also made a cameo as himself at the end of "Short Story".

Chris Sanders does the voice of Stitch in the both the movies and the cartoon show. I believe that Brad Bird decided to voice Edna Mode in the Incredibles after the VA he wanted didn't capture the feel of Edna's character.

Mike Judge voiced Kenny in South Park: Bigger, Longer, And Uncut. He also has voiced many of his own creations, like Beavis and Butthead, Hank Hill and Boomhauer.

On that note, Seth MacFarlane is well known for voicing many of his own creations, like Peter and Stewie Griffin, Brian, Quagmire, Stan Smith, Roger The Alien, and most recently, Tim the Bear.

Thurop Van-Orman, creator of Flapjack, actually does the voice of Flapjack. The part was originally given to Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee Herman, but Reubens didn't show up on the day of recording. Van-Orman stepped in and voiced Flapjack himself. :flapjack:

Joe Ranft had bit parts in just about every Pixar movie before his untimely passing, as he was so good at providing scratch voices for the story reels that they ended up using him a lot. He was also Lenny, the pair of wind-up binoculars in Toy Story, Claws in Monsters, Inc ("The kid almost touched me! She got this close!"), Jacques the shrimp in Finding Nemo, and Red the fire truck in Cars. He also did voice work for a few non-Pixar films - he was Elmo the appliance salesman in The Brave Little Toaster and Dr. Finkelstein's hunchbacked assistant in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Majority of the guys in "South Park" are voiced by its creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

C.H. Greenblatt did some incidental voices in "Chowder".

Pen Ward does some voices in "Adventure Time". He was Lumpy Space Princess, for example.

Then there's Mr. Lawrence. He was a director on "Rocko's Modern Life" and also did the voice of Filbert for the show. Currently he voices Plankton in SpongeBob.

If we go back a few decades, storyboard artists/writers Michael Maltese and Tedd Pierce did some voices for Looney Tunes in the forties. They were the castaways in "Wackiki Wabbit" (1943).

'Billy & Mandy' creator Maxwell Atoms voices Jeff The Spider, and Craig McCracken voiced himself on 'Foster' when he gets a letter from Eduardo about 'Explorin' Lauren' (Named after his fiance/writer Lauren Faust.)

Joe Barbera voiced Tom, & Jerry's owner in 'The Mansion Cat', and Lou Scheimer lended his voice to such characters like Orko, and Kowl. (Using what he called 'a harmonizer'.)

Speaking of which, alot of the vocal effects in the classic "Tom and Jerry" shorts (screams, yelp, etc.) were provided by Bill Hanna. Also in rare instances where Tom spoke.

C.H also is most infamous for voicing Fred Fred Burger from "The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy"

He played a lot of third tier characters on FOP as well. Most notably Dr. Rip Studwell, and taking over the voice of Dr. Bender from Gilbert Godfried.

I dunno if you'd count this, but Spongebob creator Steve Hillenburg played Potty the parrot in the Patchy live action sketches during the first three seasons of Spongebob.

Also, writer/storyboard artist and now creative director Paul Tibbitt played Doodlebob and Mama Krabs for the first three seasons.
