Characters keeping big secret from their parents

You know some Nicktoons, the main character has a secret life, power, identity, etc. from the world including his or her parents.

Anyone think that could be a bad message for kids? Parents don't have to know everything, but something like super powers, a kid should have the fate in his or her parents to tell them that. Even Clark Kent's parents knew his secret.

I understand on Fairly Odd Parents, it is a rule that Timmy has to keep his secret from his parents. But on other shows like Danny Phantom, and the Wild Thronberrys, the main character keeps their secret from their parents out of fear and mistrust. Ellisa feared her parents would explot her and Danny feared his parent would disect him and explot him. (despite in Bitter Reunions he said his parents no matter what)

Of course the Ba Fong family didn't exactly make a good case for trusting your parents.
 
well, Danny's parents never gave him any reason to not think they wouldnt dissect him or experiment on him, they always go on about how "im gonna get that ghost kid, and when i do il disect him molecule by molecule:evil: ". Id be scared too.

But eliza should have definately told her parents, they were genuenly good people who never gave her a reason to keep secrets.
 
Didn't she keep it a secret because if she told any human, she'd lose the ability?
The only way they can know if they figure it out on their own.
 
oh, right, its been such a long time since i saw the show i forgot.

dint her sister Debie (imguessing thats her name, dont remember) eventualy fgure out the secrete, and then the guy who gave Eliza her powers said that if Debie ever revealed the secret shed get turned into a baboon?
 
I am not sure, but I think you might be confused with the Fairly Odd Parents, in which if a kid told anyone he or she had Fairy God Parents, he or she would lose them.

I don't remember the Wild Thornberrys having that same rule, if so they barely mentioned it. They constantly reminded us in Fairly Odd Parents.
 
That's true. Eliza had to tell her secret in order to save Debbie in the movie. She would be turned into a baboon if she told anyone. I think that this rule in the Wild Thorberry wasn't mentioned all the time, like it is in Fairly OddParents, because of how Eliza wasn't in any kind of danger of her powers being exposed like Timmy often finds himself in with his fairies.
 
Just like she says in the theme "It's totally cool. And totally secret."

And I'm totally throwing up because of the way the line was written and delivered. Like, totally.
 
We were talking about the Wild Thornberrys and the Fairly Odd Parents. Ironic thing is Timmy actully had Eliza's powers for an episode, he wish he could talk to fish, though it was only limited to fish. And he may or may not have had the ability to talk to animals when he switched brains with Dito.
 
Never...mention...that...show...:yawn: It's a snore fest.But to my knowledge there were no consequences for telling people about chalk people.Rubin told his little girlfriend Jenny about Slap and nothing bad happened.
 
Besides Chalkzone is about a secret world, that in the tick of things, has nothing to do with the main character. It is not the same as having super powers. Though it is a little bit like Fairly Odd Parents, but it doesn't have the same consiquence of secretsy.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but Rudy is the only one who can use the chalk, right? I remember seeing a villain trying to use it but he or she couldn't. I don't remember it so well because I haven't seen Chalkzone in a while. And it does have consequences. Should the wrong person find out about Chalkzone, they could destroy it or use it to cause danger in the real world.
 
I don't think the secrets are a problem. The older children Nick targets want their own secrets to become more independent. The secrets don't have to be important, like magic animal talking. It's all in the having.



Quiet, you. It was a nice little show, very trippy.

Only real humans could use the magic chalk. Penny used it a few times. No Chalk Zone resident could use the magic chalk. I've no idea how the Chalk Zone people learned the chalk was magic.

Rudy kept Chalk Zone a secret, but I don't recall any reason why beyond wanting to protect it. That show didn't sweat backstory. Rudy had the chalk because he found a piece at school, and showed the zone to Penny because he liked her.
 
Yep, he does. They appeared in one episode of the cartoon ("Goodbye and Good Riddance") and in the live-action movie Ben 10: Race Against Time.
 
Well if we are bringing up the competition, here are some examples of how they handle the parent to the hero relationship.

Kim Possible - both parents know

American Dragon: Jake Long - the mother knows, and for a long time the father did not until the final episode (ala Danny Phantom)

Something american writers should look at, and take notes, is Pokemon. The kids don't keep any secrets (except for James, but he is a villain sort of) from their parents. The heros and parents are very trusting of each other. When things aren't going right, the kids might fib that things are going well, but it is not any major secrets like on some of these Nicktoon shows I mentioned. Their parents give them encourage and support them. I think the relationship between parents and their children on Pokemon is beautiful.

I know in the Pokemon world becoming a Pokemon trainer and / or master, is expected. But I get the sense, there is not the fear and secretsy that you have on some of the Nicktoon shows I mentioned. The heros on Pokemon know their parents love them no matter what, while on some of these american shows, there is the fear my parents will never accept me.
