Channel 4 'Comedy' PhoneShop

Im certain I have seen this series before. Has it been on before ? or am I having Dave ja vu syndrome.

I seem to remember thinking that the Newman character is just Ricky Gervais in a different form. Close your eyes and his script is the Office esque.

However on the whole I am enjoying the Cultural insight into everyday life in EnglanRABhire and particularirly enjoying listening to the characters speaking proper England as its supposed to be speaked.

Is this a fly on the Wall documentary of life in a typical English high street.? Simply spellbounding and keenly insightful. Often humorous I think, but difficult to tell with my limited understanding of this proper england nuance and language.

Full marks to the producers for allowing us this pin hole peep at real life.

I really like it - and I'm not from London, and can still understand the put-on accents and jokes. I agree with the posters who said it was like 15 Storeys High and such... I even think there are parallels with such great comedies as Father Ted and The Office, given how surreal and daft much of the comedy is...

It might not be laugh out loud, but what is these days? I work in an office and found much of The Office cringeworthy as it was so close to what you see acted out in those kinRAB of environments... Still, brilliant.

I think it's intelligent and funny. The fact that the cast are improvising and creating the stories is to be applauded...

I thought it was a documentary, their portrayal of people who work in mobile phone shops pretty much matched exactly what I've experienced when I've made the mistake of walking in to one.

I'd seen the pilot and enjoyed it. Ep 1 was ok but Ep 2 was very funny indeed. Shame they didn't open the series with it really.

The scene where the two guys are giving the new bloke dating tips was extremely well written and acted, and the resulting cock up on the date was hilarious.

Alas the dire trailer and first ep has probably done the damage though and no one will watch.

Just in case anyone involved with the show has Googled upon this thread and become suicidal, I am enjoying it a lot.

To me, it evokes the contemporary world of a Sutton phone shop just as accurately as Mad Men does a 60's New York ad agency :)

Go up to London's Oxford Street and you'll find that all the asian assistants in the Phones 4u stores talk with a Jamacian accent

Only saw a few minutes of last night's show...I'm tempted to give next week's show a watch.

I agree with most of the posts on here, this is possibly the worst show I've ever watched on TV. Tonight's 'joke' about his wife having cancer was the low point in a program which every scene so far must be considered to be a low point.
