Channel 188 - Are they trying to trick us into ordering extra channels?

I'm assuming your all recieving the new channel that lets you order other chanells, anyways so when i was flipping through the channels and landed on it and i must have unintentionally pressed a button and the next thing i see appear on my screen is that i orderd the movie network. what is this? i didn't want to order any new channels, and it seems like they've added something that could cause people to order chanells just by mistake, i think that's a bad business practice.
 
Very bad. I also did that. Fortunately, it was a channel I already had, or I would have been on the phone so fast screaming at them!

There is no warning that selecting it will buy it. It looks as if you would get only information by selecting it. Bell better smarten up on that one!
 
It's a "feature" that we've had with Rogers for quite a while. You may want to put a parental lock on that channel. ;)
 
The issues are:
1) The navigational system on that channel is horrible. Where as "press select to continue" on some pages means "press select to buy" on others.
2) There is no confirmation on the purchase. Why could they not have put in a simple
 
Actually yes it is their fault...by switching to the channel you are automatically ordering a sub to a channel, kinda sneaky if you ask me. What if someone is scrolling through channels and accidentally hits the select they automatically order! There should at least be a confirmation screen, like when you order PPV.

I haven't seen this channel.........but it sounds like there are going to be some very mad people calling Bell.

It can be handy to have a tool like that but there should be a confirmation window at the very least. The confirmation window should be like PPV.......YES CANCEL NO with the cancel being highlighted. BTW Don't ask me what's the diff. between cancel and no.
 
It only amkes sense that they should require the PIN, and give you a chance to confirm that you really want to get the new channel. Very poor programming on their part.
 
So it is a two step process. First you have to select a channel and then you have to "confirm" the additional subscription/price.

I therefore see nothing wrong with the practice.
 
Someone else in my neighbour hood must have had the 9200. The channels would change all by themselves, and eventually land on the payperview channel and try to order movies. Very fun to watch. A change in the ID of the remote and all is well again.
 
Sorry I don't have ExpressVu anymore so I have to ask.

  1. Can you order packages on this channel or is it simply single channels?
  2. Can you cancel packages or channels also?
  3. Is it available for all receivers?
  4. Do you need to input a PIN or anything or simply say order?
Is this a case of great idea but crappy execution?
 
I agree. IF it is a 2 step process then I see nothing wrong either.

I would assume you need a phone line plugged in though?
 
You do need the phone line plugged in. It attempts to dial out as soon as you confirm and if there is no dial tone it tell you to plug it in or cancel.

It's sad that Bell doesn't allow you to cancel. I think making it easy to order and difficult to cancel shows tremendous contempt for subscribers.
 
1.You can order single channel and some pakcages (Centre Ice,Sunday Ticket,After Hours)
2.No only ordering.
3.Only on iTV enabled systems.
4.No PIN required just hit select to order.
 
I went in and tried to select the movie channels. As soon as I clicked on it, it flipped back to the menu. I checked and the movie channels did not come in.

So, it appears we have confirmed that you need your phone line plugged in for this to do anything.
 
Does not sound too bad, but the requirement for a PIN would of been a nice feature. I would advise all parents to put this on the locked list.
