My wife and i are separating. I am keeping the house and taking over the satellite service. Currently she pays the bill and it is in her name. How complicated will Bell make it to switch the account to my name and how much will they charge??

If you are on a contract right now you could "transfer" the ownership of the account by calling Bell. A few is involved (50$ I think). Your wife wold have to tell them she agrees to the transfer and you would have to take the call ans say you agree that account is tranferred into your name.

If your contract has expired just call them and say you want to deactivate. In 30 days they will disconnect everything. You can go on line, at a Bell store or calltem to set a new account, and you will b getting all the ne client'S promo.
To be able to qualify to get it you will need to rent 1 receiver OR buy one receiver.
If the receivers you currently had were rental you will need to return those and book a tech to install you new rental.
If they were purchase you will need to have one new, and could add the others.

They could also, if you contract has expired, offer to close you wife's account, and open a new one on your name. In that case a 35$ transfer charge applies. Since there is no "new" receivers on your account you will not get any "new client's promo"

Shouldn't be any charge that I know of.

Changing the bill-to name is the easiest way to go. If you own the equipment, they'll change the name for you, but you and your wife should both call in just to make sure.

Another way is to add your name to the account, as in a joint account. In a month or two, ask to remove her name. I've done that with telephone but don't know if it will work with satellite. OTOH, if you both have the same last name, there should be no issue. You might have difficulty getting any new customer promos if either the last name or phone number is the same.

By being the co-user you will be able to make modifcations to the account, be you will not be able to close the account (if you ever wish to). Only the account owner could close the account It also implies that the account owner is responsible for tha account

To be able to make the change of the name for the account owner the current account owner must autorise it by calling Bell TV and the other person (who wish to be the new account owner) must accept (ideally they should be together when they call in). As I mentionned previously there is a fee for doing that (50$) I belive.

When my wife and I separated, she just called Bell and they made all the changes for her, no costs were involved.

Incorrect. If the second person on the account, in this case, the husband, is the person being billed (i.e., the bills are in his name), he can deactivate the account. There is no $50 charge for changing the name on the account, as I mentioned previously.

If he were to create a new account and transfer some receivers to that new account, the cost, normally $35, would be waived, due to the circumstances.

I alway find it sad to read through these posts hear that people are seperating, yet I don't have a clue who they are. Sure it could be for the best, but still it still sad.

Good luck with the account name change.

^ Thanks for the support! I am still trying to work things out. I just have to prepare for the worst.
