Changeling - Angelina Jolie

I'm looking forward to watching this at the weekend, although I made the mistake of reading the true story earlier in the paper, so think I may have spoiled the whole plot/ending etc. It does sound like a truly awful story.

I'm another who tenRAB to avoid Jolie's fims, but I'll give it a shot and post what I thought next week
 
Neither films nor husbanRAB are objects that can be 'stolen' from another.

Yes, Winona Ryder was meant to be the star of Girl Interrupted but she was outshone by Angelina in the showier role. Simple as that.
It happens - think Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger in Batman, Michael Douglas in Wall Street, Forrest Whittaker in Last king of Scotland and many other examples.

In each case, Angelina included, the supporting actor had more screen presence and charisma than the leading actor - nothing 'selfish' about it at all.

The reviews of the film have been good overall with Angelina's performance cited as being very good. Her presence in it has only been queried because some critics felt she was 'too beautiful' for the role - well, surely beautiful women are allowed to be mothers, so that's hardly an issue.

Or it's been said she is larger than life so the viewer can't put that aside while watchign the film - well, on that basis no big star would ever be able to make a film.

And it will make its money back once awarRAB season comes into play.
 
I've just read about this film, well the real story, in the paper.

I want to see the film, but I'd rather read it I think.

Does anyone know if there's a book about it? :)

I'm surprised you even went to see the film seeing as it's pretty clear from other threaRAB that you strongly dislike angelina jolie.
 
i thought the film was fantastic. she was really good. but i doubt she'll get an oscar, i can see her facing stiff competition from likes of Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep
 
Totally disagree she won a emmy and a golden Globe for her role in Gia. She was brilliant as the tragic supermodel. That was before she was even that famous. She was also brilliant in The Bone Collector and her best performance which i was surprised she didn't win an oscar for was A Mighty Heart were she played the wife of a reporter who was kidnapped and beheaded in Pakistan. :cool:
 
I loved this film.

Having read nothing about it beforehand (deliberately) other than that it was a true story about a corrupt LA police force and a mother who lost her son, I was very surprised at how the story unravelled and took a dark and sinister route.

I thought the whole cast was excellent and Angelina's part was very believable.

Clint Eastwood did a remarkable job of bringing several storylines together in a slow build up of tension and suspense. It wasn't dull or boring in any sense of the word, but slowly paced for the first half hour or so to allow us to get to know the characters.

It's one of my favourite movies this year, and I think Angelina deserves an oscar for her performance as does Clint for directing.

It's powerful stuff and a must see IMO.
 
Saw this today and thought it was a great movie. The story was well told, very well handled and extremely moving in parts. Thought Anjolina Jolie was superb as Christine Collins but the acting from everyone in the film was fantastic all round esp. John Malkovich.
The guy who played the murderer was creepy as hell!

I don't think it's Clint Eastwood's best film as a director but great movie nonetheless.
 
Saw this last night, and it turned around my opinion of Jolie - it was a fantastic performance, and not "over-acted" at all. If anything, I thought she played it a little too subtely.
I couldn't believe this was based on a true story, so checked this morning, and whilst the time-scales don't quite add up in the film, it all pretty much happened.
They sanitised it a little, because what they didn't make clear was that Northcott was actually a sexual predator who abused all of the boys he killed, including his nephew - but I guess it's quite hard to depict that in a film! They also ommited the part his "mother" (who turned out later to be his grandmother - his "sister" was his real mother) played in the murders.

Not necessarily Oscar material, but definitely a great film.
 
Agree with you about the film and Jolie, but do you really think she played it too subtely with the constant:

"My Son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

what surprised me is that the screenplay is by J Michael Stracynzci - the guy who made Babylon 5 .

terrific film .

eastwood's best since Million Dollar Baby .
 
Yes, but by the end of the film, alot of people in the cinema were sniggering and laughing when she was saying it, so the effect had obviously wore off throughout the film.
 
loved the film.thought everyone in it was excellent. the one thing that spoiled it for me was Angelinas make up.she woke up in the morning with perfect make up.when in the asylum she still had make up on,after a shower and several days passed,ok it was smudged.was clint going back to the immaculate look of the time?but surely this would not be true in real circumstances?
 
It was a great film i think, missed a few facts from the real life situation, Angelina's acting was brill...not oscar worthy but then again if films like No Country For Old Men can get oscars:mad: then anything can happen!
 
Yeah, I wasn't a fan of No Country, either - but then, I hadn't seen There Will Be Blood, thought Juno was intensely twee and irritating, and I can't stand Clooney's "acting" so skipped on Michael Clayton, too. I thought Atonement was good for the first half hour, but after Saoirse Ronan stopped being in it it got really boring (except for the fab Vanessa Redgrave's bit at the end).

Unfortunately I think Angelina WILL get a nomination this year, though, seeing as the Academy "snubbed" her performance in A Mighty Heart last year. Unfortunately this means she'll be hogging a place on the nominations list rightfully deserved by the likes of Sally Hawkins or Melissa Leo. :(
